Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi, our 11 year old son was diagnosed 3 weeks ago and we are just getting used to everything. It has been great to see the way you all support each other and the fact that so many of you manage your condition so well has given us a lot of confidence that whilst we can't beat the thing, we can at least learn to live with it and more to the point, help our son to live with it. We are all learning so much every day, some of which is comforting and some of which is frankly scary. We were recommended quite a good book, "Type 1 Diabetes in Children, Adolescents and Young Adults" by Ragnar Hanas which has over 400 pages of information covering just about everything, it is well written and has answered many of our questions about what has happend, what to expect and how to attempt to deal with things. But there really is no substitute for real experiences, so we have joined our first ever support forum and look forward to sharing our experiences with you all.

welcome TB 🙂 Glad to see you have found us, you are right advice and support from others int he same situation is invaluable. I would say that more than 90% of what I know about diabetes has come from others with the condition

We have some parents here, Bev,Patrictia and anon are the first few to come to mind,

How is your son coping with it all?

hi TB 🙂

well it will change a lot of things for you all, but with great support there is nothing a diabetic cant do. a lot of members on here are testament to that (even me lol). there are some other parents on here, but as a whole i find the boards are a great place to come and just chat also. advice on here is invaluable as we all have the condition or care for someone who does so do ask as many questions as you like and dont think any of them are stupid either 🙂

well bye for now and i hope everything settles down quickly for you all 🙂
