Type 2
Afternoon all, been 3 weeks since being told by doctor i had type 2, sorter got my head around it now, and the wife finally understands and is being supportive, i have changed my diet complety around and have had no naughty food or drinks at all ( pats my back ):D at the moment i am taking metformin mr 500mg 2 a day, but my doctor said this would go up on my next visit which will be in 2 weeks time? not sure why, i saw the diabetees nurse last monday she was very nice but was so much to take in, in half an hour!! had a scan last week and was told i have a fatty liver, so this on top of everything else just scares me even more now, i have stopped drinking completley now as i just want to feel and get better, at 35 with 2 kids and a wife i have no option, and also have a chest infection which im trying to get rid of as i am also am asmatic, which is not under control ethier :( even tho i have tried so many inhalers and drugs etc with my asthma nurse, don't smoke ethier!! im not over weight have a very phisical job ( boat builder ) so just need some good news some time soon!! got sent home today as the last 2 days not been feeling right, i felt like i had taken something this morning, i went to sit down at work grabed the chair and felt myself going, i was shaking heart racing and just felt like i was about to pass out, not had that before, had some jelly babies as been told that helps and i had a banana, still feel shaken up now, i don't no what my sugar levels are as have no way of testing, all i have is diasticks so i used one and it was negative, before it was always above mmol/26, once again new to all this so not sure waht the readings are by that, i tested on another diastik about 1/2 an hour ago and it was mmol/5.5 and do feel better than earlier this morning about 10.00am when i had this funny turn, i have an appointment with desmond day on the10 of july, some time of yet so all in all bit confused.

I too was diagnosed with fatty liver at the same time as the diabetes. However, it was clearly down to me being overweight rather than anything else.

There is one thing that someone need not look overweight but if they didn't have a particularly good diet (e.g. too much saturated fat) then it is possible to have excess fat lying around and in the internal organs. Perhaps it is this which has been affecting you. Alternatively, it could be down to the 'demon drink'. You're in the best position to determine which is the likeliest cause and what the remedy is.

The good news is that fatty liver can be reversible (and I mean reversible!). I was just recently discharged from my regular hospital visits to keep an eye on it because with my diet change it has pretty much been cleared without any residual scarring. Hopefully the same will be true for you too.

One thing, I'm afraid you will have to keep limiting the alcohol intake from now on. Even when the liver improves it isn't a complete fix. I do allow myself the odd pint every now and then or glass of red however.

Good luck!

Andy 🙂

Thanks andy, im glad to hear i can actually reverse this, as i said i will not be drinking anything as i want to get back to normal and look after myself better, for me i think take aways and other bad food and the drink was the demon..fingers crossed ^5

You will be amazed at how the liver does indeed repair itself with the right diet etc - my Mum a type 2 as well - got told last July she had fatty deposits and has since lost 3 stone in weight, through gentle exercise and eating a bit healthier and her liver is on it's way to recovery.

Good luck with the changes etc!!
