Hi all,

I was diagnosed as diabetic on April 21st 2023 with a hba1c of 107. It was a bit of a wakeup call. I've read so much on this forum that has really helped, so thank you all for that.

I have just been for the 3 monthly checkup, I've lost 7 pounds in weight and am now hba1c 55. Hopefully I'll be able to get it down by even more before the next 3 months.

It's been difficult totally changing what I eat but have managed to cut sugar out of most things I eat. No more chocolate apart from 1 small bar every few days - brown bread instead of white bread etc. My wife has been wonderful and as she does most of the cooking she has really helped me (and lost a stone herself).

Once again, thanks for being such a great resource of knowledge.

Well done on getting your HbA1c down.. not sure I'd recommend brown bread over white as the carbs are virtually the same. I just cut it out completely.
Keep up the great work and no doubt you'll get lighter and healthier over time.

Congratulations @peterb999 🙂 Give yourself (and your wife!) a huge pat on the back and keep up the good work. If you're counting carbs then brown bread unfortunately has the same as white, but I personally find I can tolerate wholemeal better than white which always bloats me and gives me a sugar spike. Presumably you have found the same.
Onwards and upwards! 🙂

Glad you have ‘delurked’ @peterb999

And lovely to hear that you’ve found the forum helpful so far - you have done amazingly well so far, so whatever you have been doing seems to be working really well for you 🙂

Great to hear your wife is being so supportive, and is seeing some benefits too 🙂

Yes, my meter showed me all carbs are different as well.

But @peterb999 losing weight made more difference to be fair, keep doing what you're doing, that's an amazing result.

Well done on your HbA1c result. That’s brilliant, you must be very pleased. I’m four months in from diagnosis and I’ve had my blood taken but haven’t had the results from docs yet.

Keep doing what you’re doing.
