Good morning everyone. 3 month HBA1c test yesterday - results posted to me today. I am now 6.3% 45 mmmol from 3 months ago when I was 7.9% 63 mol, I am in France and they use different units here. I am hoping someone can explain this to me . Many thanks.
Should add I have also lost 3 and a half stone and have gone very low carb. Still a lot to learn though and Ithink this forum is great at supporting each other and I don't think I would have achieved this without the fantastic information I glean from reading other peoples posts

This pic is useful:

The top two lines show HbA1c in the "%" form like you have in France (and most other places) and the mmol/mol used in the UK.

7.9% / 63 is a bit high - in the yellow area in the pic.

6.3% / 45 is in the green part - so well done!

Depending on where you are, a "normal" non-diabetic level is supposed to be anything less than equal to 6.0% / 42 (eg in the UK) or 5.7% / 39 (eg the US). But it's really an imaginary line, pretty much. At 6.3% / 45 your excess risk of diabetes complications is tiny, almost certainly no greater than if you were on the other side of the imaginary line with 6.0% / 42 or whatever.

Well done, @Mgfg1rl, that's a great result! And well done on the weight loss :D

Well done, excellent result and wonderful weight loss, keep it up. I agree this forum is brill x

Huge congratulations from me too on both your latest result and weight loss. Thanks for posting it and serving as an inspiration to others, including me, of what can be achieved.

Hi yes it was a bit of a surprise as my blood sugar meters instructions are all in French and I know there is a way of working out HBA1c - I just don't know how to do it. My morning readings are all around 125/135 I can't seem to get them down any lower. The new eating plan ha been challenging but I don't really miss potatoes, pasta and bread. Courgettes and Strawberries and fizzy water are now my life! Plus my golden retriever puppy who takes me for long walks every morning at 7 as its too hot any later in the day. I am doing the 1000000 step challenge too which is motivating me. Plus now I ve lost weight I am a bit more confident at wearing a costume so I am swimming a lot more. I also give myself little reward every half stone, but only little things. But yes the advice and support on here's been a major factor in my success, I still want to loose another 2 stone and try and get my HBA1c a little lower so I can get another "felicitations" off my lovely doctor who i think thinks I've lost the plot a bit and doesn't quite agree with eating so much fat and protein. Anyway keep going everyone - if I can do this anyone can!

What units does your meter use? If it's like the US, it uses mg/dL and to convert that to the mmol/L used in the UK you have to divide by 18.

To go from that to HbA1c, you can only get an approximation, but if you calculate your daily avg BG reading you can use the pic I posted as a rough guide.

So for example if your average was 7.0 mmol/L then you can see from the diagram that it corresponds roughly to an HbA1c of 6.0% / 42.
