I have my 2nd HbA1c on Tuesday and can already feel myself getting anxious...worried the next few days could increase my sugars due to worry.

All I can say to myself is I've done eveything that could be asked to help myself...healthier diet; increased physical exercise and weight loss....:(

The HbA1c works on glucose levels over the past few weeks, with more influence on the previous 2-4 weeks, but very little effect from the few days prior to the sample being taken, so it will reflect your past few weeks more than the next couple of days.

So relax !! :D (and good luck)

Rob

Nothing you do in the next few days is likely to have any impact on your HbA1c Amanda, so stop worrying now! 😉 I have no doubt that you will have a very satisfactory result! 🙂

I've got my next one on Thursday 🙂

I'd agree with Robster and Northener! I'm actually expecting mine to lift up a little bit (as I'm eating slightly more carbs) so you might be lower then me given how hard you have been working!

With the swimming and your carbs effort Amanda, and now the rowing, I dont think you have anything to worry about. I look forward to your results.

A high five springs to mind.🙂

In the past 2-4 weeks I have had both my flu and pneumoccol jab - although it hasn't spiked my sugars I haven't been feeling too well; been a bit light-headed, sore throat; runny nose etc... My current HbA1c is 7.2; nurse would like to see a 7; I'd like to see a reduction but don't want to tempt fate by predicting...

The 1 thing I am happy about is my weight; I've gone from 13stone to 10.2 and am within my healthy weight for my height; I'm lower then I should be 🙂

Will the blood test also include a cholesterol check? My 1st cholesterol result was 4.8 (although within guidelines for non-diabetic); trying to reduce it to 4. I think I'm more concerned about my cholesterol number than my
HbA1c. I'm dreading spending any time with the DN - its like sitting with the grim reaper....:(

I'm just feeling sorry for myself today...must be the gloomy weather.

It seems to depend, I had a total cholesterol check when I was first diagnosed but not for any test after that. When I knew this HbA1c was coming up I specifically asked for the full cholesterol profile to be added.

Have you already got the blood test form or do they not give it to you till you go there? Mine send me the form so I can choose where to have my bloods taken (it's much more convenient to have it at the local surgery then head into the hospital, but we can also have it done in the town centre as well). Having the form also means I can see what they have put me down for.

I'm hoping my cholesterol has dropped. A lowish carb diet is supposed to be good at that. I wouldn't of been considered high if I was a non-diabetic in any case.

Hi Mark, bloods are taken at local surgery where DN is based; also my GP. Can I ask what your cholesterol is? 🙂

I had to go dig it up since I couldn't remember - but apparently in January the total cholesterol was 5.5

I have 6-monthly reviews and they always do the full set of checks - HbA1c, cholesterol and kidney function (latter is urine test) 🙂 I think they should do these at least annually, and I would have expected them to be done more frequently in the first year to determine whether medication might be required - no harm in asking how often you can expect them to be done 🙂 I believe the surgery gets a payment when you meed the targets e.g. <4.0 for cholesterol, which gives them a bit of an incentive!
