Hi all!
I'm Brent, new here but was diagnosed in 1996 when I was just out of school at the age of 16.
I was always overweight, but a couple of years ago I was told at my half-year review that I had gone over 20 stone. That motivated me to finally do something about it, so I joined my local Slimming World group in September 2019.
By Christmas I had lost 2 stone, however I had not consulted my team WHICH WAS A MASSIVELY BAD IDEA!
I was woken up on Christmas morning by 2 paramedics as I had suffered a major hypo, which was another wake up call in itself.
I am now over 2 years into my weight loss journey, 8.5 stone lighter and in sniffing distance of my 9 stone loss target.
My diabetes is wrangled under control, I'm taking way less insulin than before and my bloods are relatively stable.
I'm also now into running and cycling, which are activities that I would not have even considered previously.
I'm also participating in the DiabetesUK Month of Miles challenge and could really do with some help with donations.
I have clocked up over 20 miles in my first week and would love to get to my modest target of £250, having just about managed a little over £100 so far.

Any donations or shares would be hugely appreciated!

Welcome to the forum @acridweasel

What a journey!! Well done on the weight loss and getting things sorted.
do fire away with any questions that you have, and let us know how you are managing things with all the exercise you are doing. That is certainly beneficial to our health and can help to stabilise levels, but also poses some challenges too.

Glad to have you with us @acridweasel and well done for taki g on the fundraising challenge for Diabetes UK.

Huge well done on the weight loss too. Sounds like it has had all sorts of benefits to your diabetes management, and great that you have become so passionate about running and cycling!
