1st week on Metformin

Hello everyone, I am quite confused after a call from my GP following blood works that showed a
Blood sugar level of 88 , he has started me on metformin and I am to have another blood test in 3 months. Am I diabetic or pre diabetic ? My GP didn’t say and in my panic I didn’t ask. I have started back on a Keto based diet of low carb / sugar hoping this helps. Any advice much appreciated, thank you x
 
You're diabetic and that is quite high. A value > 47 is diabetic.
Mine was 83 and a low carb diet + weight loss (3 stone) helps me keep blood sugar under control.
Metformin may help a little, but the lifestyle change will have a lot more impact.

I am making big lifestyle changes and working on weight loss, I’ve been on restricted mobility for a while after having knee replacement surgery but now able to exercise more so am hoping all that will help bring levels down.

What will make changes is not eating the carbohydrate - analysing where the sugar and starch is coming from then eating something else, or cutting out that type of meal completely if there is a temptation to over eat will really help - it might take a few weeks or even months to sort out what to eat, but it is possible to get back to normal numbers.
It can be quite a shock to the system to go down to low carb all at once, and I think it helps to make the changes and test as you go, and it gives time to collect together any kitchen equipment which might be useful.
I find that a pressure cooker is really useful - just for cooking swede it would earn its keep. I eat it instead of potato. I can cook the swede in the water - that reduces the flavour, but put in potato, in a separate, dry, bowl to cook at the same time as part of my husband's meals.

I am actively watching my carb intake and logging everything I eat on an app called Carb Manager
I don’t eat potato, pasta or bread at all and have cut out all food high in sugar. I eat fish and roasted Mediterranean veg , chicken and dairy. I’ve lost 5lbs in the first week of eating this way so hoping I’m on the right track
 
You might want to change your profile to say Type2 since your HbA1C is definitely in the diabetic zone.
Not eating those high carb foods will certainly help.
