Been Type 2 for about 8yrs. everything fine till 4yrs ago when I was taken off a tablet as it was consider risk for heart attack not had low blood sugar since.
recently put on Lantus and had bad reaction to it. red ichy lumps and stings when injected. Now on Levemar still reacted but not as bad. Nurse never come across it before. Phoned other nurses who had. Has anyone else ever had this reaction. Nobody seems to know what to do

Hi Jemjax and a warm welcome to the forum, sorry i cant help with the Lantus queary but wanted to welcome you x

Hi jemjax, welcome to the forum 🙂 I'm guessing the pill you were taken off was Avandia? Lantus does sting occasionally as it is based in an acidic solution that reacts with the body's fluids to form little crystals under the skin that slowly dissolve, releasing the insulin. Levemir works differently, which may be why you are better suited to it. Have you tried using different needle lengths, as this may be part of the problems you are having?

Hi jemjax. Welcome. 🙂

It's also possible for you to be on a non-human insulin. There are pork or bovine derived insulins still available for people who are allergic to lantus or levemir or one of the other synthesised insulins.🙂

Welcome to the forum Jemjax 🙂

Hi Jemjax and welcome to the forums. I've been Type 2 for about the same time as you. If it was Avandia you were taken off of it's probably a good thing. I believe it's no longer licenced in this country now anyway.

Just a thought to add to what you've already been advised....has your doc considered Byetta or Victoza? They are injected but are not insulin, and act in a different way to insulin. I've been on Byetta since April and it's worked wonders for me so far. In any case I hope someone can help you soon. Take care. XXXXX

Welcome to the forums.

Has your nurse spoken to a consultant diabetologist or endocrinologist, as they are likely to have come across such problems before and maybe able to offer an alternate.

not Avandia

No it wasn#t Avandia. they tried to put me back on it when I changed drs 2 yrs ago. Refused sent me to see dr who said take it coz you will die anyway if you don't ( re heart attack) that was 1st and last time I've seen dr. thans for other stuff seeing nurse tomorrow. will mention
