1st serious spike

I'm utterly baffled today.
I've been in pre-diabetes, borderline diabetes T2 since 6 months after being diagnosed with high blood test results 6 years ago.
I have long since stopped testing every meal, every day etc etc ...that testing that becomes obsessive when first diagnosed.
I bought a new contour+ blue monitor that arrived today.
After finally getting enough blood on strip, only took 15 strips (eye roll) it finally displayed 10.0
Trying to decide if I'm in shock.
I eat twice a day normally with a snack at bedtime unless I've had a hectic day and lots of exercise.
So 6am this morning, waking using my old monitor I was my normal 7.2 for that time of day.
Had black coffee, went for a swim, checked hives and had low fat yoghurt and blueberries (about half a mug of berries) for breakfast.
Walked dogs about 4-5 mile. My typical morning.
Ate at 3.30
Had a steamed chicken breast with small amount of mushroom cream sauce, a medium jacket potato; didn't eat skin.
French beans and leeks. Drank water then had a cup of tea.
A normal for me ...around 40 - 50 carbs.
Tested at 4.30 using new monitor... admittedly I got frustrated with it but eventually get a reading of 10.00
I can't figure out at all why on earth I've spiked ...
Has anyone else had an issue changing to the contour + blue?

My guess would be the potato, but you did test after only an hour.
Might be worth testing again now and seeing if it’s dropped any?

Well normally I would wonder re potato but I have about twice a week and have maintained average of 4-5 regardless my last blood test was 44...and I hadn't been finger pricking for 6 months except a couple of times after eating something different.

Could be worth writing everything down as you have it, testing before and 2hrs after eating just to see what could be causing it.
Potato and Legumes send my readings to the moon but luckily only for a short time.

It's now 8.6

Yeah....just didn't want to go back to the constant testing and food diary...I still refer to that from the first year I was diagnosed.
But I guess it's back to that for awhile ...am due a blood test next week.

I just wonder - are you now any older than you were when your BG did this, 'before' ?

Stuff changes with time - and so do our bodies, even though I still have the keyring with '39 forever' emblazoned upon it!!

Yes....it was 6 years ago and I know and was expecting a change subconsciously but it altered so quickly with the new monitor...I probably gave it nervous breakdown by the he time I'd got hrough 15 strips and 15 error messages🙂
This morning I was wondering what on earth was making a difference, what had changed ....then a light went on, end of last week a doctor at the surgery (not my GP who I see re diabetes)
put me on blood pressure tablets...to take in mornings.
So I googled asking re BP tablets and BG.
After reading that...I didn't take this morning, I guess he didn't read my file properly if at all.
I get a blood test next week and then I'll see my alloted Doc and discuss with him
Thanks for responding xx

Sorry to hear you had a bit of a surprise reading @Pollyanna - although it’s higher than you are used to, it is (currently) only one reading - so try not to panic until you’ve gathered a few more results. Not necessarily back to full-on saturation testing, but just enough so that you can see a broader picture.

Goodness 15 strips for one result sounds like a nightmare 😱

Is there a way of decoding the error codes? Or did they say what was wrong? Was it insufficiently filled strips? Some Contour meters allow you to top-up, but I’m not sure about the Contour Blue

@harbottle Am I right in remembering you use the Contour Blue? Any hints and tips?

Yes, I use the Contour blue.
I never had problems using it - it gives you two attempts at getting a sample.
The only error I've seen is 'not enough blood' on the app (You get a notification on the phone.)
