Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi, hope everyone's having a good day. I saw my GP a couple of weeks ago for mild abdominal pain, and a couple of small rash areas on chest and stomach. Rash areas were yeast fungal, was recommended antifungal cream which is helping well. I had blood tests last week, the results showed HbA1c level of 101, 2nd blood test happening Friday this week. By the looks of it, this would mean Type 2 Diabetes? Wait and see, I suppose....

Welcome @Rich13 🙂 Yes, an HbA1C of 101 puts you well into the diabetic range. Don’t panic though. You should be able to get that lower gradually, and as your blood sugar comes down you’ll feel better in yourself too.

You’ll find plenty of support here so don’t hesitate to ask whatever questions you want. Nothing is too trivial and no question is silly.

Hi Rich13, welcome to the forum.

Good to hear that you're having another blood test so they can officially give you a diagnosis. It could be any type of diabetes so hopefully they'll e cler when you get the results.

We've got lots of info and support on the site if you do turn out to be diabetic so do let us know how you get on.

Welcome to the forum @Rich13

Glad you have found us 🙂

There are lots of friendly helpful folks here who are using a variety of different approaches to manage their diabetes that you can share experiences with.

If your HbA1c of 101 is confirmed, it seems likely that they might suggest starting you on some medication, at least to begin with.It will also really help if you can balance the effect of total carbohydrates (not just ‘of which sugars’) in your menu with your body’s ability to cope, and the support of any meds you are taking.

It can be really helpful to keep a food diary for a week or two. Be brutally honest! Note down everything you eat and drink. And add up the amount of total carbohydrate in the meals and snacks to give you an idea of which foods are the main sources of carbs in your menu, and which meals have the highest carb load. This can give you some really useful clues when you are looking to make your menu a little more BG-friendly.

Let us know when you get your results and we’ll do what we can to help 🙂
