my name is Joy. I have joined the 1million step challenge to raise funds for Diabetes here in the UK. I live in a beautiful tourist town in North Wales surrounded be high hills. I am hoping to lose 3stones in weight by Christmas hopefully I will lose some pounds whilst doing my steps. I do not suffer from diabetes but my Brother-in-Law has suffered for many years. He has had toes removed, poor circulation, kidney trouble and suffered his first Heart attack a few weeks ago. I am doing the steps for Him x

Hi Joy a warm welcome, what a coregeous and selfless thing your doing I wish you the best with the challenge and im sorry to hear of all your BIL,s bad health x Hope he keeps his spirits high in these difficult times x

Thank you Steff. My sister helps him a lot. He found out he had diabetes through a routine eye check so his sight is very bad. He ignored his condition for many years. It is upsetting because if he had looked after himself then he wouldn't be suffering now.

That's very true joy sometimes we realise when it's to late to do anything about it .It's sad and it does mean a more complicated life but it's not the end of the world and it sounds like the people around yoir bil are strong women who are keeping him more focused
Good luck

Welcome and i have great respect for you and what you are doing. Well done to you and good luck 🙂

Hello Joy and a warm welcome to our friendly & supportive forum - so sorry to hear about your Brother-in-law and the complications that he suffers associated with diabetes - it doesn't do any of us any good to cry over spilt milk but I hasten to add it's not too late for him to make a few changes to make life a little more bearable for him. He could change his diet by cutting down the carbohydrates - and do some exercise however little to help with his poor circulation. We can help you with both.

Also very well done Joy for entering into the one million step challenge with your BIL in mind, good for you - that IS one big marathon challenge and I'm sure your bil is very proud of you as you should be too. I wish you the best of luck with killing two birds with one stone - that is just fantastic and I hope you reach your target regarding the weight loss. There's a thread here that you may be interested in - it's called *The Weight Loss Group* and you can find it in Diabetes Support Forums.

Take care and do please stay in touch - we'd love to hear how you fare with your step challenge & weight loss x
