Been a type 2 diabetic for a few years now after being admitted to A & E with reading of 146, yes..146! Spent hours on insulin drip. Lucky to be alive. Ever since, despite numerous medications and life sryle change, I cannot seem to get my blood sugar levels to 4-8. Taken finger prick test this morning and its 15.6. Its really getting me down.

What medication(s) are you on and what is your diet like (ie what do you eat in an average week).

Is there a reason they diagnosed T2? Did they do any blood tests to confirm this or was it purely down to age/weight?

Have you had a recent(ish) Hba1c blood test and if so what was the result?

Welcome, that must have been a scary experience.
Perhaps you could share what medication and dietary regime you are now following, have the high levels been a recent thing.
Have you lost weight unintentionally by any chance as that may indicate that you are not Type 2 but actually Type 1 so would need a different treatment plan.

Hi and welcome.

Sorry to hear you have been battling high levels for so long.

Was that high reading taken before breakfast or afterwards and if after, how long after and what did you eat?
Do you test every day and do you have a schedule for testing or is it just random?
Do you have much/any weight to lose?
Knowing what medication you are taking for your diabetes would be helpful

The more information you can provide us with, the more appropriate our advice will be to your particular situation. Diabetes can be surprisingly individual because there are so many factors which impact our blood glucose levels.

Welcome @dj43 Sorry to hear you’re battling high sugars. What medication are you on? If you’re on insulin, what’s the full name, including any numbers or letters after the name?

Welcome to the forum @dj43

Sorry tohear you’ve been feeling a bit down about your levels. Diabetes management really can be a slog at times :(

Sounds like you had a pretty torrid time at diagnosis. And it seems like you’ve been working through a variety of oral meds (?) but that your levels are stubbornly high.

Do you have a means of checking for ketones? Pharmacies sell Ketostix which you can dip in urine for about £5 for a pot of 50. Have you got any abdominal pain, shortness of breath, or nausea ?
