Hey all,
My name is Hayley and my son Brayden who is 13 has been diagnosed as type 1 only 2 weeks ago. He also has scoliosis (curved spine) and urticaria (cause not known) but we are thinking autoimmune along with his diabetes. We are still waiting for his autoimmune blood test results to come back.

Welcome. We’re here to support you and answer questions. You’ll have a tonne of information heading your way at the moment but try not to worry. You will take it all onboard eventually. Lean on your diabetes team. They are there to support your whole family not just your son.

Welcome to the forum! My daughter (16) was diagnosed on 1st May, so a few months down the line. So much to take on board on first few weeks, this is a great forum for answering any questions and support. How did he come to be diagnosed?

Hi @Hayzel,

Sorry to read of your son’s diagnosis I hope he’s feeling well now he’s getting treatment - how is he finding it all?

Welcome to the forum, there will be lots to learn at first and it can be a bit overwhelming, but ask questions when you need to, have a rant when you need to - there’s always someone here to ’listen’ night or day.

Hi Hayzel,
Welcome, I’m sorry to hear of your son’s diagnosis I was 14 when diagnosed (now 60) it’s a steep learning curve ahead, but you are not alone. Lots of people on here experiencing/living through the diabetes ups and downs.
You’re a mum first and although we want the best for our children, I have to say I was a bit of a beast to my mum and dad after diagnosis, look after yourself too.

Welcome to the forum @Hayzel

Sorry to hear about your son’s diagnosis. Hope you get some clarity on those other conditions soon too. Sometimes the ‘not knowing’ is really difficult, and once you know you can begin to work out what to do next.

How have things been going so far? Are you gradually plodding through things, or feeling a bit overwhelmed and all over the place?

You might find Ragnar Hanas’s T1 book a very handy, and understandable reference to fill in any uncertainty or ‘what did they say about...’ moments 🙂
