A cash injection of more than ?100 million across England is set to transform people who may be "drains on society" into "assets" to their communities.

The Big Lottery Fund is awarding ?112 million in grants of up to ?10 million to 12 areas across the country - in a bid to "end the revolving door of care" faced by "vulnerable" people with problems such as homelessness, mental ill health, addiction and re-offending.

It hopes the financial boost will help to improve and create better coordination to prevent people being passed "from pillar to post".

The investment will bring together organisations and bodies in each of the 12 areas to coordinate and join up service, allowing them to provide tailored support.
