One hundred years ago, in 1922, two Irish scientists in Trinity college in Dublin made a discovery – the synthesis of a medicine called metformin6 – that later changed the course of diabetes care and today, 130 million patients are treated worldwide with metformin.7

Following further investigations, approvals and formulations, metformin today is the world’s most widely prescribed oral antidiabetic medicine for patients living with type 2 diabetes and is available worldwide.
