Welcome @michelle.burns and sorry you’ve had to join us. A Type 1 diagnosis is a massive shock. I hope, at least, that you’re feeling better now you have insulin. I was also admitted to hospital and had loads of fluids as well as the insulin. I didn’t realise how ill I’d been feeling until I started to feel better.

What insulins are you on? Do you have a Libre?

Hello Michelle and welcome from me too.

I was another late starter with Type 1. It's a bit of a rollercoaster isn't it! If it helps, I am nearly 5 years down the line with it now and it is mostly just automatic but the first few months are really overwhelming. Hope your trip to hospital was more precautionary than a full DKA event. I was lucky and had a slightly more gentle approach to it as I had 6 weeks of oral Type 2 meds and strict low carb diet before I was started on insulin, so didn't need a hospital visit.

Which insulins have they given you and how are you managing with testing and injecting? Hopefully they have kitted you out with Libre or other CGM sensors as well as finger pricking kit and BG meter. Do be aware that sensors are not 100% reliable (nothing is I suppose) but knowing their limitations is important to avoid making ill informed decisions from the data they give us. I will link to a post about the Quirks and limitations of Libre or other Continuous Glucose Monitors... below...

Let us know if there is anything we can help you with or you are confused about, or feel free to just have a rant about the unfairness of it all! Sometimes it helps to let off steam or share little successes here on the forum with others who understand the challenges of living with diabetes, rather than bore, bemuse or rant at our nearest and dearest. 🙄
