A new drug launched today could improve the lives of millions of diabetes sufferers and save the NHS ?70million over the next five years.

The ?1.90 once-a-day injection controls blood sugar levels and cuts the risk of heart attacks, amputations and kidney failure.

More than three million Brits have diabetes and most have Type 2 ? which is related to lifestyle and weight.

It costs the NHS ?10billion a year and is set to rise as the obesity crisis worsens.

Lyxumia, which is injected before the main meal, controls glucose levels and also makes people feel that they are full.

Looked this up, apparently it's a Byetta/Victoza type medication.
