Hello,
I do not know if i am a type1 or 2 until a few weeks time. I am hoping for some information on food i can eat. I have a sweet tooth!!!!!:D

Hi Chorltonboy, welcome to the forum 🙂 It seems it's not unusual these days for people to have to wait ages to find out what Type they are. How are you feeling? Did you have any symptoms beforehand, or was it discovered through a routine test?

The best food generally is the same sort of healthy, low-salt, low-saturated fat, low sugar diet that everyone should be following, so in that respect these days there's nothing that's specific about a diabetic person's diet. However, the main thing to be careful of is carbohydrates, both the portion size and the type of carb. I've found books on the GL Diet most helpful, as this uses combinations of foods that release their energy slowly into the bloodstream rather than as quick 'spikes' that the body finds difficult to cope with. Worth having a look at the following:

Goodness! That is very high - when is your next appointment?

i have got it down to about 6.7 with diet and meds. I am hungry all the time. What do you snack on when hungry???

Peanuts usually, or cheese - both low carb but need to watch out for the calories and the fat. 🙂 The 6.7 sounds good, well done! How often do you test?

Welcome to the forum, chorltonboy38.

I tend to avoid snacks, because everything I buy to 'snack' on over a week tends to disappear very quickly (usually in one day!).

Recently, though, I've been making myself a fruity/spicy spelt loaf with walnuts in my breadmaker and a small slice for elevenses and threeses has been doing the trick for me quite nicely (but may not be suitable for everyone!).

Andy 🙂

Precisely the things I need to avoid!

I can usually control the cheese intake though. I went through a phase of having a small piece of stilton with three or four Nairn's oatcakes. Absolute heaven, but found my weight loss came to a crashing halt even so!

Andy 🙂

Hey there and welcome to the forum!!

For my snacks while i'm around the house i keep a big tub of home made fresh fruit salad in the fridge ... I have to make a big tub because my kids are never done picking out of it!! The lil tykes always run away with the best things!! lol
