KUWAIT CITY, April 26: The Amiri Hospital is organizing a two-day ‘2nd Amiri Diabetes Conference 2014’ at the Al-Jahra Ballroom of the Marriott Hotel in downtown Kuwait City. The event is held under the auspices of the Minister of Health Dr Ali Al-Obaidi. The conference was inaugurated by Dr Tarek Al- Jasser, Director of the Capital Health Area on behalf of the minister and chaired by Dr Abdul Nabi. Taking part in the two-day event are a bevy of diabetes specialists who will enlighten the attendees to the conference on the best ways of containing this malady - the growing public health problem here in Kuwait, a country whose population at the moment ranks ninth in the world in terms of people suffering from it, according to Dr Talal Ashour, diabetes specialist at the Amiri Hospital.
Dr Ashour, on the sidelines of the conference, told the Arab Times the main purpose of the conference is to emphasize that “our doctors here in Kuwait know the latest developments in the area of diabetes. He went on to say, the theme of this conference this year is about diabetes in relation to the Holy Month of Ramadan.
