A Bradwell Common man who gives up his spare time to help raise awareness of diabetes amongst the local Muslim community has won a volunteering award from the charity Diabetes UK.
Abdul Rais ,59, is a translator of Urdu and won the Supporting Others at the charity's regional Inspire Awards, held in Guildford on February 28.
Abdul who is from a Pakistani Muslim background, was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in 1999 and now as a volunteer supports people to improve their management of the condition which is more than six times more common in people of South Asian descent.
