NHS England has announced that it will allocate £1.1 billion of the £2 billion George Osborne pledged for 2015-16 to underfunded clinical commissioning groups (CCGs).
Earlier this month, the chancellor of the exchequer announced in his Autumn Statement that £2 billion would be given to the “frontline NHS in England” as a “down payment” to the “NHS’ own long-term plan”.
Osborne (pictured) was referring to NHS England chief executive Simon Stevens’ ‘Five year forward view’ report. This plan said that efficiency measures alone would not be enough to plug the NHS funding gap by 2021.
