Android, Smartwatch, Libre pairings - Help please!

Hi folks. I was hoping one of the more tech savvy members might be able to help here as I'm losing the will! I am about to undertake more driving for my job and urgently need a way of being able to monitor my Libre BGL levels without touching a phone (which is illegal now anyway) ...enter the SMARTWATCH! I've been searching through a few old threads and can see that Apple iPhone and Apple watch combo with random 3rd party software works but not much on the Android front. Investing in Apple tech is a last resort but I was hoping to find a cheapish Android compatible Smartwatch that would do the same thing... It needs to be easily readable while driving and ideally have the alarms going through to it. Does anyone have a good set up and can recommend a specific smartwatch? My phone is Motorola and I'm stuck with Libre as thats whats on my prescription. Thanks 🙂

Hi @Anne C I am not a tech savvy expert but, have my BG on my Samsung smart watch using GlucoDataHandler
I tried a few different apps, but for me this set up was relatively simple

Ive got a Samsung watch6 (found a decent deal off amazon) but there are obviously other models available

You will need LibraLinkUp on your phone as well as the standard Libralink app
downloadable from PlayStore GlucoDataHandler to both watch and phone

then using a watch face on your watch you can allow the GDH to provide your BG as a complication I use one of the pre installed Samsung watch faces for this

there’s a Facebook group for GDH which I found useful
you have GDH on the watch and so can customise alerts etc in the watch, as well as on the phone
but the connection into LibraLink (back to your sensor is on your phone)

Other apps that can be used to do similar include Juggluco (not on playstore) Gluroo are the ones I remember
But for me the set up I’ve got seems quite simple
I did have others but thought this was simple and works

GDH also is a good app anyway, as it has some good alerts
can be customised such as going low as well as a low, rising fast & alerts can be off or on at different times of day for example I get my watch to alert me at night and the phone GDH alerts are then off (I no longer use the Libra alerts from their app at all)

It’s really good to be able to glance at the watch to see quickly what’s happening, all the time
but remember when driving, if your here in the UK
you still should be testing with your FP test as per DVLA recommendations

Juggluco is again in the playstore, for both phones and Wear OS watches. The other big one is xDrip+ which is not in the playstore, https://xdrip.readthedocs.io/en/latest/

I use Juggluco, installed both on my phone and watch, and my watch is a Pixel Watch (largely because my phone is a pixel phone; if you have a Pixel phone or a Samsung phone there's a small benefit in using a watch from the same manufacturer).

I have a Samsung Watch 4 (very cheap!) and use GlucoDataHandler combined with Juggluco and it works a treat

Check the "Libre Geeks" facebook page as there are multiple ways of connecting all manner of phones and watches on there (check the "files" section) - good luck with it 🙂

good if Juggluco is available in the Google playstore now

On the libre I used Gluroo on my iphone with my iwatch. They have vidoes on how to set it up. I found it easy to set up, every now and then you would need to refresh the settings but it worked well. Not sure if it works on other phones.

I updated my gluroo app on my phone, and noticed that Gluroo now have a Samsung watch app, that you can download from the playstore also.

I've just installed it on my watch6, and it has automatically linked to my phone app.

I use Juggluco -> XDrip+ -> Garmin watch, but I've got to say (from experience) that I don't think looking at your watch is all that useful while driving (wrong angle and numbers are small, and focus change is starting to become and issue these days too!)

I think I'd opt for my phone in a handsfree cradle with either Juggluco or XDrip+ providing a large on-screen display of the numbers (which can be overlaid over whatever you're using - e.g. nav)

The watch is a game changer. The phone stays in your jacket. You glance at the watch & it tells you the number with an arrow 🙂
I use XDrip+ on android with the same app on my watch. It's a lot of tech-savvy steps to sideload the app on the watch. But the same data is then visible on a Garmin bike computer. I can paddle with the numbers on my watch & cycle with glucose next to my speed on the bike computer. I had some luck with Juggluco&Libre in the past, but prefer the XDrip as my main app. The watch can add treatments & "snooze" custom alarms (Missed readings, high, going low & low).
I'm still not able to get my pixel watch reading the libre sensor without a phone, but I'll try again this week with the new 2+ sensor.

Do you use OOP2 in that case to decode the libre data? The reason I started using Juggluco was simply to remove the requirement to use OOP2 and keep it up to date (via random links to Google Drive apks to sideload).

Glad you've got a working system 🙂

It is when a few years ago we would need to get out a blood tester. My phone can be in my pocket or bag, or at home on the side not even near me and I can just glance on at my watch whilst in a meeting. Or at the cinema for example.
Even socialising, doesn't interrupt conversations etc.

It's a tricky one though, looking at your phone is considered rude, but looking at your watch tends to mean you're bored or want to go - I agree it's much easier on your wrist as it's there without needing to dig a phone out of a bag, or leave it on a table, but I still apologise (especially if I'm talking to someone one-on-one) for the fact that I'm glancing at my watch and explain that it's not because I want to be somewhere else!

Yikes! I never considered people might think it rude!

I don’t bother about that, I don’t think it’s rude at all. Keeps me healthy, better than me getting out my blood tester.
