My wife and I are away for a short staycation in the Fermanagh lake district. Other than my weakness for ice cream I’ve been very good with my carb intake, but in a hotel I’m like a Pavlov’s dog. First thing I did was to eat the biscuits. It’s over 27 weeks since I last had a biscuit!

Before the meal, in the bar, tonight I couldn’t resist a pint of Guinness. Probably the 1st one I’ve had this year but not too bad at 18g of carbs - not much more than a thick slice of bread. But, for pudding, four scoops of ice cream with hot chocolate sauce 😱

I’ve got my meter with me and it’s 23 minutes until I prick my finger!

Good luck with that finger prick result, Make sure you are sitting down in case it is a shocker!
Actually, might be a good idea to go out for a post prandial walk in the mean time to see if you can suck the worst of the damage out of your blood before you test.
At least you can indulge in a guilt free cooked breakfast in the morning.

My reminder has just gone off, took out my meter and I’ve not brought any lances! Talk about annoying. I had a good walk before the meal.

Sounds like a very convenient excuse to me. 😉

I’m not brave enough to stab myself.

As my father once said to me - about 50 years ago - and it’s still ringing in my ears:

NO. NO. NO. The answer is no. Definitely no. NO. NO.DAAD304B-EAAB-4D13-902E-D3F176E7A5E3.jpeg

Nip to the pharmacy tomorrow for a spare finger jabber?

Excellent idea. But I’ll have to have another Guinness and ice cream with hot chocolate sauce again tonight 😱

I bought a box of lances from Boots in Enniskillen today. Tested before eating and BG was 6.1. I couldn’t bring myself to have the same as last night as it wouldn’t be good for me.

Tonight I had just a burger no chips and only had half of the bun. A pint of Guinness and no ice cream, in fact no pudding. I’ll be pricking my finger in 45 minutes. I’m hoping for around 8. I’m managing to hit my exercise targets despite being “on holiday”.

A surprisingly good 6.4. I’m a happy chappy.

Excellent. 🙂

Great result!

Enjoy yourself, that’s what holidays are for🙂 Specially for sinning. Beautiful part of the world, and great food too.

Reminds me very much of a now very non PC comment made years ago when discussing canteen facilities and catering standards at various branches of the large insurance group I worked for when someone commented that the price of a cooked lunch in Dublin office was £1 and everyone positively blenched at the figure. The comment was added to this statement by someone that these lunches were HUGE though. Silence as this info sunk in. Relieved by one chap (known to be a joker) who responded to the last bit with 'But dey have to be huge don't dey? - cos dey all drop half of it, Mr Chairman!' - in his best Yorkshire/Oirish accent.

(Sincere apologies to anyone Irish of course - but they'll know as well as I do how 'Paddy' was portrayed in those days even when the only real bloke called Patrick we'd have 'known' in those days was Mr Moore the astronomer and hence the utter antithesis of 'Paddy'.)
