Type 2
Hi, I have just been diagnosed with Type 2. I am 70 and have sleep apnea and ovarian cysts, which I believe contribute to the chances of having it. I am overweigh due to a very bad time last year and I was over eating for comfort. I was diagnosed on Christmas Eve (nice touch doc), and went straight on the 5-2 diet, so have lost 9 pounds since then. The doctor says I should be able to control it by weight loss. I have done it before on this diet so feel confident.
My father and my ex partner both had it so I was used to shopping and cooking for them. I have 8 friends who have it and have lots of support.
I have kicked cancer so I am going to kick this as well.

Hi Sue, welcome to the forum 🙂 You certainly sound very determined, which is a very big part of the battle - well done on everything you have achieved so far! 🙂 You might like to have a read of Maggie Davey's letter which may give you a more diabetes-focused angle on your 5:2 diet, so you are including only the types of food that are helpful to good blood sugar control 🙂 I'd also recommend getting hold of a copy of Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker, which is a very helpful guide to these early weeks and months 🙂

Sounds like you have a lot of good support, but if you have any questions or concerns, there's bound to be someone here who can give you a clear, reliable answer, so ask away! 🙂

Welcome @Sue Webb. I am sorry you found out so close to Christmas - I was diagnosed on the 4th Dec and thought that was close enough. Sounds like you have good support and experience and this forum is a great place to extend that. It is good news you can start with control by diet. That's positive too.
