Relationship to Diabetes
After huge hassle I have managed to join the Forum.
I was diagnosed yesterday with Pre Diabetes so want to learn more and hope to learn from all of you. Thank-you🙂.

Welcome. I’ve been here approaching a whole week now as I was diagnosed T2 last week.
I’ve found the forum packed full of useful info and it’s invaluable having real people to bounce ideas and questions off.

Hi there, not sure if this is the correct way to start... I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic in July 2019 with 'number' of 46; not great. Had my bloods done last week and got result back today of 47; even worse. I felt devasted plus I've have high cholesterol of 6.2. I'm just so gutted as I've lost a stone and smugly thought 'hey, I've done well, it must have gone down!'. Guess it doesn't work like that, tho. My mother has diabetes too, but I thought it was because of all the fizzy pop she drank. I feel I need some support from fellow 'sufferers' and what to do next. thanks so much

Welcome amble, you should get some advice from the diabetic nurse at your GP surgery to start. You can also check out Diabetes UK pages https://www.diabetes.org.uk/

Thanks Jodee. I'm seeing the nurse next week to discuss. I cried when the nurse gave me results today; I felt like I needed someone to hug me and be sympathetic. However... I will continue with healthy eating

47 what measurement is that Kinny ? HbA1c in mg dl?
that would be very low possibly indicating Hypoglycemia, you need proper guidance from your doctor nurse on this low level.

Hi and welcome to the forum. As a pre-diabetic 42-47 you are in a good position to reverse things. I doubt you have been given any medication but you can certainly help yourself with some small changes. Diabetics usually can not tolerate many carbs so things like rice, pasta, bread and potatoes should ideally be cut down on as much as possible. Even fruits have a lot of natural sugars so go for things like strawberries, raspberries, blueberries or something like coconut. Obviously cakes, biscuits etc are no no. If you need to lose weight this way of eating will help that as well as weight is another factor. If you are able to increase your exercise, even just a brisk walk at some point in the day then that will also help. Have a look around the site and ask questions, as many as you want, we are all happy to help.
PS I was diagnosed at 90 just over a year ago and I am slim, always have been, so no matter your size you can get your bg levels back down or at least keep them down. Good luck and don’t forget ask any questions at all, Sue

Hi Kinny, might be better to start another thread in the General message board as you will get more replies specifically to you. Don’t feel down it is only a small rise but lots of advice will come your way I’m sure

Unfortunately many people are being misadvised as to what is healthy. I had printed diet sheets of 'healthy' low fat high carb, and low calorie meals which resulted in me becoming almost spherical, and a type two.
Do you check your blood glucose after eating? that is whe way to find out what spikes your blood glucose - weightloss is something that usually happens if you can correct your blood glucose levels - it is not the reason for the poor control, but a symptom of it.

Hi @amble - you will find the information useful and the support golden. You are pre-diabetic with every chance of remaining so for a long time so don't panic. In my local area there are groups people can attend where they can learn and also do gentle exercise. I have been recently diagnosed with Type 2 but didn't have any symptoms.

Anyway, welcome.

@kinny lots of helpful advice here already - but yes, post a new thread in General Message Board and write all your concerns and questions down for your next appointment.

You should get notifications when someone replies to a thread you’re watching. Maybe check your alert settings.

Welcome to the forum @amble

Sorry you’ve had a few technical issues signing up and navigating the forum.

You might find threads here a useful introduction to the forum and its functions: https://forum.diabetes.org.uk/boards/threads/how-to-use-the-forum.72446/

But if you have any specific difficulties, just ask, or create a thread and one of the members will be able to give you some pointers 🙂

Thanks Jodee.
The website is not very user friendly. When I try to follow a thread it just disappears.

Are you finding following links just on this website difficult? Could be your device. What device are you using? some one with same may be able to help you.

as everydayupsanddowns says above.
