Today is World Diabetes Day, which also marks the birthday of Fred Banting, discover of insulin, and the 11th birthday of our forum, launched on this day in 2008 🙂 I joined the day after, although one of our members, @ukjohn, jumped the gun and joined a few days earlier 🙂 I think @PhoebeC may have joined earlier too 🙂

Happy 11th birthday, Forum! 🙂

Awww happy birthday!

Let’s all eat cake...wait...maybe not!!!

Happy birthday to us!

Brilliant that it has helped and supported so many thousands of people over the years.

Happy birthday forum. A great source of information and somewhere we can come and have a moan and everyone understands why. I can honestly say I don't think I would have made the progress I have without this forum. Plus I have met the wonderful @Stitch147 via this forum.

I missed joining when it first opened, I’d been diagnosed the year before, had a look on line and not found anything useful, so went away til 2015 when I’d been discharged from the hospital and realised my surgery nurse didn’t know anything about Type 1. I'd never have discovered the Libre if it hadn’t been for this forum.

Happy Birthday Fred Banting and this wonderful forum .
I joined on April fools day 😱:D 2016. I would have been in a right old pickle without insulin and all the wonderful people on this forum both past and present.

This place has and continues to be a great support to me. And I've made some great friends too.
Thanks @Grannylorraine it's great knowing you too. X

Happy birthday, Forum, you are a marvellous thing and a wonderful support! Happy birthday to all of us! :D

Happy birthday forum, here is my lifeline, happy too be a T1 with complications (who doesn`t) with the help and support of my virtual family. xxx

This Forum has been a godsend for me since I joined in early 2016 so thank you all for accompanying me on my Diabetes journey. I couldn't have done it without all you lovely supportive people by my side🙂
Champagne's on the house btw! Erm...Who said that?!

What a wonderful asset this forum is, would have been lost without it, and certainly my bgs wouldn’t have been so good. Long may it continue. Thanks as well to all the people behind the scenes that keep all running smoothly xx

Happy birthday, forum! I was directed here by my DSN when I was first diagnosed, but avoided it for several years because I'm soooo squeamish and thought there might be lots of stuff about complications, which I didn't want to read. Eventually joined because I needed to ask a question, and stayed because people were friendly, advice was good, and overall atmosphere was positive (and mostly not too scary).

Ooh, look what I found ...

(this is, of course, totally carb-free, as all cakes are when it's your birthday 😉)

Many happy returns lovely forum. I have been checking in regularly since 2013 and still pick up new things to think about, am reduced to tears by people's courage and kindness (apologies for sappiness) and consider it one of the positive things about having Type 1 (don't ask me to name any others..). When we get out cure in 10 years, will I drop you all like a stone - of course, I'll be straight round the cake shop next door, but in the meantime, here's to the next 11 years and HUGE thanks to everyone
