Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
I am 27 years old and live in Edinburgh with Type 1 Diabetes since the age of 16 and wondering if anyone on this site has been on or/going on Weekends Away/Holidays organised by Diabetes UK.
I feel it would be a good opportunity to meet others living with Diabetes however don't know how to go about registering?

Hello Andrew welcome to the forum.🙂 Your first port of call is if you have not done it already, join your local DUK club. This is the place you will meet other Diabetics and also non-Diabetic volunteers, they can advise you on what is available and help you become part of the Diabetic community. Also keep an eye on the forum there are meetings all over the country which we are all welcome to attend, hope this helps.

Welcome to the forum Andrew.

Volunteering
I volunteered at one of the DUK T1 Family Weekenders for the first time this year.
I am now hooked. It was such a good opportunity not only to help youngsters get to grips with their diabetes, but I personally benefitted from just being around a load of other volunteers who also had T1. Everyone was very welcoming. The next one I am doing is at Winchester on 1-3 November.
If you look on DUK website at T1 events there is then a link to volunteering. (If I can manage it I will put the link in, or someone else will get there before I do, I hope). There is another coming up in Glasgow which is a bit closer to you.

Adult events
I am not sure what is available at present, but I do know that they tend to be limited to those under 30 so you will make into into that category.

Other opportunities
There are often meet ups posted on here and there was one recently in Glasgow. Do a bit of a search for them, and keep a look out for future opportunities.

Hi and welcome to the forum 🙂 this page may be of use to you - https://edinburgh.diabetesukgroup.org/about/

I'm also 27 (although turning 28 in November) and a Scot but unfortunately there are no groups in my area so I know just how lonely it feels :(

Hope you manage to get somewhere with it all 🙂
xx
