Hi I've been type 1 diabetic for around 17 years. On multiple medications for ibs, schizophrenia, etc I've put on about 4 stone of weight over time and desperate to lose weight as planning to get married next year. Can anyone help with advice or has similar situation/experience. Thanks.

Remove ALL bad stuff from your diet..
Alcohol
Sweets and confection
Pastries
Take a ways
Pop
Crisps
Fatty foods...
3 healthy meals per day
I lost 2 stone in 4 months

I’m managing to loose a couple of lbs a week . Low carbs low calorie and loads of walking our dog

Thanks for your advice I've cut down a bit but I'm on 4 injections a day and have to eat 4 times a day but I see what you mean maybe I can write down what I'm eating and have healthier options now.

Ok thanks for your advice. I will have to do more excercise and try eating less carbs and calories. Yes I find carbs are quite fattening maybe I must reduce the insulin aswell as eating less carbs.

Hi, well sounds like you’re doing brilliantly already🙂

1 or 2 pounds a week is the perfect rate to keep those pounds off long term...I’d stick to that. You’re obviously aware to keep an eye on your levels. When I lost some weight a few years ago, I ended up on quite a lot less insulin....there were a few frustrating blips when having to have some extra snacks if my levels dropped when wanting to exercise...it’s quite a balancing act isn’t it.

I imagine you’re dogs pretty happy too. Don’t forget to give yourself a big pat on the back! Well done and welcome to the forum.🙂

Although I remember my french teacher used to walk her cats on a lead..o_O

I try and go for a walk most evenings, half an hour or so, but have noticed the evenings are definitely starting to draw in:(

Hi, don’t count calories!!!
Remove white/brown sugar, and all flours. Only ever eat sugar to treat hypos. I promise this alone will help loose weight and won’t hinder too much on levels if you keep potatoes and basic root veg etc, don’t go Keto, don’t go low carb, just no sugar including honey and syrups, and no flours and that includes sausages burgers etc as they have flour added. Also remove processed meats like ham, bacon, gammon, cured meats.

Also great tips HIGH FIBRE, and NO cereals. Don’t eat too much potatoes, especially white ones. Don’t eat sugar free food if it’s replaced with sweetners it’s just a dangerous game.

Peanut butter(has to be 100% nuts) , pure organic coconut oil,
85%+ choc. Sugar free jelly. All Fine!

Mediterranean roast veg with loads of protein drizzled in olive oil Fine!

Garlic butter fish with butternut chips with squished grilled cherry toms. Fine!

Pork scratchings once a week Fine!

NO flours (apart from almond flour) NO sugars + No sweetners apart from xylitol in small amounts. 10,000 steps a day everyday, That’s is the only changes needed for anyone to shift weight.

I train at the gym 4 days a week. With this diet and dropped a couple+ lbs a week and I was eating a jar or peanut butter a week with two bars of 85% Lindt .

Levels stayed good.

Liam.

I'm currently a pescetarian at the moment so I'm not eating meat apart from tuna or salmon or cod. Yes less potatoes but don't leave them out i know what you mean. Sounds healthy the stuff you are eating. I eat vegetarian meals mostly apart from fish sometimes as I thought it's good for protein. There's been a massive improvement in my sugar levels today. I drank green tea last night and had a piece of toast and it was 5 this morning and 7 this lunchtime I'm so pleased. I hope it stays good I think it really helps to make lots of notes about portion sizes and estimate what the readings going to be next day to judge amounts. Excercise is important too but I'm trying to get my sugars right before I add more excercise into the equation. Thanks everyone for all your advice it's very helpful and good to know someone is there to talk to. ☺

yeah believe me when I say proteins and fats are so important keep the levels you eat of them high. Two boiled eggs halved and on two Multigrain ryvita (Lidl versions great) will be so much better than a single piece of toast and will boost weight loss and give you more energy. Aim for more of them and really limit the additional carbs, your body will need carbs but there is enough in Mediterranean vegetables once they are combined, so a plate full of them is so much more satisfying and contains so much more goodness than that small-medium potato.

But the main thing is That's great your keeping your levels as your main priority.

I don’t come on here too much but when I see an opportunity to give some advice il always try to help.

There will always be someone here to listen.
