Well it all went ahead so that was the first huge relief, So i get there 45 minutes early lol typical me , Im intruduced to the tutor and her assisstant and then we get given a booklet with loads of info to read up on , we do a questionarie and then off we go, they was 9 of us all together age ranges was me the youngest at 27 and the oldest guy was 76, all had varied degree of health probs some had feet amputated and had diabetes for 28 years and others like me and one guy had it for 11 month, we then all sat and had 2 minutes to say how long we had diabetes for and what meds we where on etc.The course is split 1hr40 then break then 40 mins after that, so really today was more an ice breaker, nxt week we tackle diet and carbs, a lady from accu-chek came in and talked us through proper finger pricking and the new types of meters that they design , but as i aint with them i didnt take much notice lol. All in all i really found the first session very imformative and i thank the GP for referring me to it.

If no-one minds ill do a kinda munjeeta where ill come back next week with whats gone on

That sounds great - and good that you found it informative! Please keep me updated.

Sounds great. I'll have to get mt Dr Idiot to refer me for one. Got to take me feet to show him next week so I'll ask then.

Hiya Emma the group as a whole where very friendly some where very quick to answer the tutor and some sat back and where quite intrevert i was suprisingly vocal and jumped up with a few answers which i didn't thin id be like. One guy seemed to talk quite alot mroe then any of us and i got to find out he is on insulin byetta and pills he must have it bad .

Sounds like a good mix of people. We had a really mouthy woman in our class (sounds like school) she kept arguing with the tutors about her wanting a pump even though they had nothing to do with the decision and being really sarcastic luckily she wasn't there for a couple of the sessions so we got a break from her and was able to concentrate on the matter at hand x

LOL well this lot seem really good and i hope i will be able to make all the sessions , we go to tesco in session 4 as we look at food labels

I'm glad to hear you enjoyed your first session.

Glad lots of people turned up so you weren't stuck with a OLD person 😱 😉 (some of us can be quite fun, though, lol :D )

Right session 2 as follows, we talked about wieght management and exercise today we watched a 20 minute DVD called fat attack which was basically a warning on crash dieting and the fact that if you do eat and exercise the balance will play itself out , but if you sit and eat and dont do exercise then theres an imbalance. We all had a diagram in our booklet and we had the 5 main food stuff milk and dairy, fruit and vedgetables, and fat and sugary etc etc , and lucky me was volunteered to share my days food intake yesterday , it is reccommended women have 2000 kcal a day and after working out my day yesterday i had 1780 which was in range. Then we spoke about a typical day and we now have to go away and keep a food diary for a week fill it in and work out the calorie count for 7 days.Next week is carbohydrates and hw we calculate them

Have you found that you already know quite a lot from being on here Steff? Hope you have recommended us to the others on the course!

Sounds great Steff, really usefull. Think I will look up the details and make an appointment for my doc to say it is medically necessary for me to go on one of these too.

Yes i have but also a hell of alot has come out of the 2 sessions, for example i only though i was allowed 2 eggs a week and im allowed 4 , also the amount of calories in only a quarter of a pizza is 500 i was shocked and so was everyone else.

On the subject of thsi forum she came aroudn today with a sheet of paper with a web address for a calorie counter site and i said to her while she was on the subject that i had been going on a forum said the name and some other guy piped up and said he has heard of the site , i said you should give it a go told him my username and said ill expect t see you there lol.

Glad to hear session 2 was as useful Steff, seems like this course is very foucessed around diet? or will they cover stuff like medications, complications and things like that?
