Tingling sensation in feet and toes

hi everyone.

Diabetes type 2.

I have not been on in a while if any of you wonderful people could help with a query I have.
I am currently taking 2x500mg metformin twice daily along with 1x80mg gliclazide daily and for the past 2-3 weeks have been experiencing a numb/tingling sensation in my toes through out the day along with tingling sensation in the feet during the night making it hard to get any sleep. Is this normal or should I be concerned.

I will be greatful for any feed back.

You should consult your GP Colin because that could possibly be peripheral neuropathy which people with diabetes are more susceptible to. Best wishes.

It could be anything including anaemia or bad diabetes management the list is endless so as @Amigo suggests a GP visit is needed.
 
Hi @Colin1976, classic signs of neuropathy. Next step as Amigo says is docs. The condition can be controlled and in fact eradicated if caught early enough so don`t delay. Feet and lower legs are mostly susceptible with toes being a prime target, don`t delay the sooner the better. A good DSN will advise you and you will probably be given a nerve acting medication such as Gabapentin and Duloxetine. If caught early enough the problem will eventually go away and you can continue you`re normal regime but plenty of exercise.

Hi Colin 🙂 What are your blood sugar levels like generally? Some people find that when their blood sugar levels begin to fall to a lower level they can experience a 'transient' form of neuropathy which then disappears as levels stabilise. However, if you have been on your current medication for a while then it may be the earlier signs of a more serious neuropathy - in either event it's definitely worth booking an appointment as any change, particularly in feet and toes, needs closer scrutiny 🙂 Good luck, let us know how you get on 🙂
