I have noticed some subtle changes in my skin since I was diagnosed and reduced my BG levels which leads my to believe I have been bordering on T2 for quite some time.
I know it is only since Sept 28th but there are differences and differences for the better. These have totally surprised me.
Examples:-
I always had cracked skin on my left elbow for what seems 450 years. All manner of creams only temporarily relieved it so I gave up eventually. Over the past week or so, it has virtually disappeared, no creams. Similarly, I have always had a sort of dry rough area on the knuckle of my right index finger. I put it down to the high usage it receives clicking my laptop trackpad. Again, this is disappearing.
My skin feels smoother overall. The dryness of my hands is going and the my hands look "fuller". My dry scalp, which again I have had for centuries, has not been a problem for the past few days and my hair also feels different, not as stringy.
Loosing weight has relieved significantly my creaking knees.
I feel that this is the result of quitting smoking about 2 years ago although I still vape but now, because my BG levels are under control, any regeneration has speeded up.
What puzzles me is I am 67 years old this month and wouldn't have expected any significant improvement in the condition of my skin, in fact I would have expected the opposite due to me being a "geriatric punk-rocker".
Quite strange.

Diabetes, or elevated blood sugar levels does have the effect of drying the skin, Vince, as does smoking I believe, so your improvements will really have had a significant effect on it 🙂 Good news that we can still do a lot for our general health and appearance even as we get older! 🙂

I am really beginning to be convinced of that. Maybe in 6 months I will look 21 again😎

That might be stretching things a bit Vince, but I bet that, with the changes you have made, you will most likely feel much closer to that than you probably have for quite a while! 🙂

It's the low carb. Works every time, seen it over and again. A persons' skin clears immediately. A nice side effect. 🙂

I once put my sister in a bad mood though because she came out of the house 'glowing' and I was jubilant and said "So you're doing the healthy eating?" She was proper cranky and said no she was using a new foundation and had lathered it on. :D

Well Vince...is it the foundation:D?...likely the change in diet...that fact you are feeling so well...lowering those BGs...a whole change of lifestyle...well done.

Ironically Vince there were many positives for me when I was diagnosed...having escaped the attentions of the NHS for many years...suddenly plunged into it head first...lots of issues...then diagnosed with type 2...stunned initially...no idea what to do...where to go...arrived here approximately 15 months ago knowing nothing about diabetes...received so much great advice...support...now...managing my condition fairly well...feel better than I have done for years...lighter...more active...positive...all perversely as a result of my diabetes diagnosis...as for the polyfiller...economical...malleable...versatile...good tip there...may warrant a trip to B & Q this afternoon:D.

Good for you Vince. Losing weight & eating better is good for your body. Keeping hydrated is another. Sorry but it made me smile when you typed 450yrs. (it must be good cream :D) Keep at it !

Thanks Hobie, I am trying.

I had a dry scalp & also a frozen shoulder for a good year before diagnosis with no idea what was causing them. Since getting my BG's under control, both have completely cleared up.

Amazing isn't it. Another example I have had small spot like patches on my face white below the skin. They wouldn't budge no matter what and then suddenly, yesterday I noticed they had vanished.

I had the itchiest scalp in the universe (no, really!) before I was dx. Nothing could get rid of it.

(Mind you, for the past 5 or so years I've been thirsty ALL the time - I drink 2 litres of water every day, but can't seem to shift it).

Glad to hear you're feeling the benefits, young Vince - 60 going on 16!😛

Well To be honest Bloden, not every part is going on 16 YET!!!! (nudge, nudge, wink, wink,) but again I live in hope.

Well I know I have said this before, but I should market this Low Carb eating as a beauty aid for sure.
Skin benefits to date after 4 months:-

Dry Scalp - Gone.
Hair feels healthier although I an starting to "thin out" a little🙄 but just a little.
Skin tags on my neck from my neck chain which I usually had taken off regularly, vanity, and have had for years - Gone without my intervention.
White patches under skin on face - Gone.
Dry skin on elbows - Gone.
Dry skin on knuckles - Gone.
Dry knees - Gone.
Dry and rough skin on feet which I use to take off with an angle grinder - Gone.
Skin feels softer, oilier and is considerably smoother.
I can only put this down to the low carb diet, long may it reign.
On top of these my creaking knees have vanished because of the weight loss.
