I'm sorry to say it's not only likely Jeanette but pretty irrefutable! Those are quite high levels and you'd need a glucose level of at least 10 to register on the urine dipstick.
You need to be discussing a way forward with your GP which will most likely involve medication at those levels. It's possible to bring this down massively so don't despair and good luck!

Can't disagree with Amigo here, sorry! - so welcome to the Club no-one wanted to join! LOL

Hi Jeanette. Welcome to the club that no one wants to join.

I know this must be very scary for you right now, we've alll been there and got the T shirt. The good news is that this is one condition that with the right info, support and some effort from you , is eminently controllable!!! We can and will help with the first two.
Their is an awful lot of misinformation out there, so don't believe all you hear/read. T2 is not all about being overweight either , nor is it about eating too much sugary stuff. slim healthy fit and very healthy people can become T2.
I don't wish to overwhelm you with info atm, for the time being try to cut down a bit on the starchy carbohydrates like potatoes, rice, pasta and bread especially white, fill up on vegetables instead. Fruit juice is not good either , grapes are little sugar bombs.

How did you come to get tested for diabetes

Feel free to ask questions

Hi Jeanette and welcome. With support and advice off this forum you will soon have your diabetes under control. A word of warning if you suddenly reduce your blood glucose you may experience temporary change in eyesight. I reduced quickly and I went from being mildly short sighted to perfect distance vision (confirmed by optician) to unable to read anything under my nose! Lasted 3 weeks and have had my eyes checked by my optician and hospital and they are healthy.

Welcome Jeanette, Sorry to hear you have joined 'The Club' so to say but you have found the right place with this forum and I'm sure it will be a great help, As others have mentioned don't hold back on the questions there are many folks here more than willing to help and offer advice.

Grogg1 I've been worrying about this for a couple of weeks but thought it was all in my mind. Hi Jeanette welcome I like you was supprized by a random test which was around your level a couple of months ago. Lots of good advice and support on here and everyone has been really helpful

Welcome Jeanette, please do keep us appraised though I think we pretty much know what the official diagnosis will be...

A warm welcome to our forum Jeanette - glad you found us - we are a friendly bunch of folks here willing to support you on your Diabetes journey so you're not alone. Take care

Take yourself off to the optician to get your eyes checked out is my advice; it will give you peace of mind.

I went to Specsavers, mid week quite early morning as they are so quiet then. I had a young, enthusiastic optician who gave my eyes a very thorough check and asked me to go back a month later before she issued me with a new prescription. Not long after I was called for my first diabetic eye screening. By then my vision was back to my normal and my screening was fine.

Took my eyesight a good month to sort itself out.

It's because the actual shape of your eyes alter when your BG is hugely high because of the amount of water your body is throwing out to get rid of the excess glucose - hence your eyesight goes peculiar (I simply could NOT focus properly - couldn't read, couldn't watch TV, couldn't knit or sew - drove me almost nuts with boredom)

Once your BG has been at more 'normal' levels for a bit, your eyes re-hydrate (and blurriness is actually a symptom of dry eyes) and resume their proper shape, and Bob's your uncle.

Hello and welcome. :D

I moved home therefore changed gp. During the healthcare check it was found. I was so shocked to say th e least, my previous gp never ever tested me for it even though I was experiencing hypos!!!!!! Thirst, very dry skin weight loss & skin rashes.
It's a good job I changed drs to find this out.

I was the same Jeanette, umpteen skin and throat infections, shakes after eating carb based meals , general poor health but GPs kept telling me it was viral. Went to the new GP in the practice who immediately suspected diabetes and since I've been on treatment and change of diet I'm feeling healthy for the first time in years!

I see my diagnosis as a positive thing, it's the day I got my health back on track.
