Hi firstly Pete you are right I have been quiet today. I went out for lunch and then shopping with a friend. I ended up having 2 real coffees (I am an addict !) on top of a couple of instant ones and now I am shaky and jumping about the place, if I go to bed tonight it will be a miracle. After I came home I have spent hours online trying to find flats to view. We want to buy a flat and put our daughter in it and then when she moves on it could be a source of income for us when husband retires. We are looking for a 1 bed but there arent many but 2 beds galore. We are worried if we buy a 2 bed she will stay in it forever and then we wont get any income from it, but we are going to go and view some anyway. Have you had a good day ? and what are you doing this evening ?

Thank you Northener for explaining what my liver is probably doing, nobody has ever explained why I eed double or more insulin in the morning compared to other times. Right I am going to post on this thread what I eat, what I inject until I get it right, so all comments and help will be appreciated, or chit chat thats good as well :D I started a diet today and want to kick start it so no one be too horrified about my lack of food intake for a couple of days !

B/F 10am BS 11. something (sorry forget now) Humalog (H) 3 units Carbohydrate 0 1 x coffee

Lunch 1pm BS 10.1 Humalog 6 units CHO no idea parsnip soup no bread

Dinner Porridge (I know, its my diet) BS 13.4 , Humalog 7

Bed/now 10.7 Lantus 11 units, do I need more Humalog for bed, not eating drinking 1 glass wine

OMG doesnt look that good, but hopefully I will improve. I didnt pay any attention to cho in porridge as I know it causes bs to go up out of proportion to insulin should really take. I am a bit rubbish at this but hope to get better.

Hi TinTin,
have you heard about the b-dec online carb counting course? http://bdec-e-learning.com/
You might find it will help you no end if you haven't seen it.

Good luck with the flat hunting TinTin!

It seems you need more insulin! But before deciding whether to adjust the Lantus or increase the humalog doses, it would be helpful to have more BG data between meals. For example if you did a BG test mid morning you could see whether it rose and fell again by lunchtime (in which case you'd need more humalog) or whether your correction dose had brought it down to normal range and it had then risen up again (in which case your basal is too low). Also, you really ought to count your carbs accurately and keep records for a few days if you're going to be able to fine-tune your humalog doses! 🙂

Hi there Tin Tin hope you can get some sleep after all that coffee, best of luck with trying to sort your Bs out and sure these guys will help were possible, my day ok that card machine went down again today 😡 but I rebooted it and it worked after🙂 I am no good for giving advice but always up for a chit chat 🙂

Hi Pete you are having a really bad week with machinery arent you !!! Did you get your burger machine working again ? I fancy a burger just thinking about one, thats the diet talking :D I am sure you can give advice as good as anybody elses when the occasion arises. Whats your weather been like today ? It stayed dry here but so cold and windy.

Sue I am in the middle of doing an online course about insulin amounts and cho. I am doing well, though that could be hard to believe ! I find it hard to judge things bought in cafes etc, soups a killer as I am so unsure about vegetables.

Thank you Redkite I shall test a bit more tom and post my results at night and see what everyone thinks, is that a plan ? You are all lovely for helping TinTin

Have you got the book "Carbs and Cals"? Loads of different foods all photographed in different portion sizes, really useful when eating out. Also comes as a smartphone app but I can't speak for that as don't have it!

My burger press is well and truly broken, so will have to buy a new one, weather here has been mild but overcast. Best of luck with that online course your doing, and also your flat hunting as you say should be a good investment for when your husband retires. 🙂

Yes I do have that book, somewhere, I am going to look for it before I go to bed and make sure I look up soup before I go out again 🙂 Thanks for reminding me about it !

The Carbs and Cals smartphone app is really good. Very easy to use, laid out exactly the same as the book, I think it contains even more information than the book and of course you can keep your phone in your pocket, easier than carrying the book everywhere! I have it on Android phone and iPad, the Android one is better, iPad one is a bit temperamental! (I presume iPhone/iPad version is the same)

I agree you need more insulin, like Redkite says though we need more data before we can see whether it's your basal or bolus that's wrong. Keep it coming!

Hi Sally now the App is a great ides but I do not have a smartphone or anything really. I use an ancient mobile that you can use for calls and texts, thats it 😱, Shocking I know but it has large numbers and large writing on screen for me so I can use it. If they ever bring a smartphone out for blind people I shall have ine, I know for a fact scientisits in Dundee university are working on one, or an App for smartphones at any rate 🙂

Here's a link to a list of ipad/iphone apps for the visually challenged. Some of them may actually be useful. And here's some for Android. There's one on that last list called Message Ease which supplies a large format keyboard.

Hi sorry am feeling quite bad, have had terrible night, no sleep (coffee bad idea) but hypo for hours now.

Dinner last night porridge 7 humalog 6.30pm bs 13.??
10.30pm bs 10.7 lantus 11 units
2.45am bs 3.6 lucozade
5.30am bs 2.8 lucozade
8am bs 2.2 lucozade

I have had no food since 6.30 last night and dont understand why humalog would start to work so long after meal and also if it is lantus thats my normal dose for ever ! Feel awful,, should I eat some b/f with no humalog or is thhat a terrible idea ?

Oh Tintin sorry to hear you have had such a terrible night! I hope you are feeling better now, it's horrible when it all goes wrong like that and you don't know why!

Maybe you have sorted the breakfast problem out now but I wanted to say that breakfast with no Humalog doesn't sound like a terrible idea if you are still low. I think my mum misses out her breakfast jab if her BG is below a certain level because she knows she will hypo later otherwise.

Hope you feel better soon 🙂

Sorry to hear you had such a poor night and feel so bad now, hope these guys can help and hope your husband is back so your not feeling poorly on your own. Don't think that coffee is doing you any favours but you need some small pleasures in life ..

What a horrible night :(

Could you have accidentally injected humalog instead of Lantus? If my son had had a night like that, I'd keep him home and bolus insulin AFTER eating, also just giving a reduced amount, probably half. I'd also be on the lookout for tummy bug symptoms.....

Thank you Pete and Sally. I feel better but bs has come up to 16.1, have had no b/f just a coffee and no humalog. Worried it is too high now and unsure what to do, I seem to be in a bit of a muddle today. On the good side I have booked to view 3 property's tom and a couple more to go. I am suposed to be out for lunch with a friend today, not sure but dont want to let pal down. What you doing today Sally ?, I know what you are doing Pete, working, have a good day, will it cost a lot to replace burger press ? 🙂

Well I can go cheap at £30 and last 5 minutes or buy a good one and they start £120 upwards.... But if I buy a good one you can bet it will rain all summer so no one having BBQ ..

Do you think your Lantus covers you for 24 hours? It might be that you need a split dose.
Or even perhaps a change of basal insulin.
Would a delayed dawn P be the cause of the high?
Other option which with your experience is not likely the last lot of Lucozade you had was more than enough to treat the low.

Ha, well if todays torrential rain is anything to go by ...... I have just asked husband to go buy me a burger for my tea from the butchers !, thats your fault :D Maybe tha is a sign people eat burgers all year and a good machine is in order, you would think we will have a nice summer one of these years 🙂

Hi Sue I think I really overdid the lucozade at that last shout, was fed up by then. What is a dawn p ?, is that when liver dumps glucose into system as Northener thought that could be happening to me as well. I will try and continue as normal today, do you think I need insulin now bs has gone high ? I will keep a record for a bit longer and if I cannot get to grips with it I shall phone DSN and ask about splitting dose of Lantus or changing insulin.
