Hi all,

Well after battling with Nathan's hypo's and insulin doses over the past 12 days...we have managed to go 2 days without a hypo..and adjustments to insulin seem to be working great.....🙂

However at breakfast this morning..Nathan and me were discussing how much insulin to have with his lunch today....we agreed 14 would be quite enough..considering he has taken that past 2 days..its hot...and he was going to play footie at dinner with his pals...fine I thought...Nathan phoned at 12.30 to tell me his reading 10 a little higher than normal..but not a problem...then dropped into the conversation he had taken 20 units of Nova Rapid....😱...dont ask me why?....he said he wanted to....well omg...panic sets in...decided to phone him back at 1 to see what he had had for his lunch...did'nt actually get round to telling me......So now its goning go 2 ways be perfectly fine or hypo form hell....fingers crossed...but feel the latter will be more certain.....

Harrassed mam

Hopefully things will go OK. The good thing is that your Nathan sounds as though he will know what to do (ie. eat something) if he feels himself going low. 🙂
Try not to worry too much if you can.

Oh Heidi -- 20 units! Maybe he had something additional like cake and just didn't want to tell you...

Please let us know. I'm feeling for you....

Hi MCH and Patricia

Nathan has becoming increasing hypo unaware😱...that was another reason for the radical reduction in his insulin doses.....he feel through the door at 3.30....reading 2 last week after taking 16 units....and hadnt felt it coming on😱

He had done his insulin 10 mins before eating..he was heading down for lunch when he phoned......he usually has jacket spud and beans poss a small cake....really I dont care at this mo...hope he eaten the who tray

Thank you for your replies....just phoned school too make them aware of possible problem..they asked what should we do?????????aaarrrggghhhh...they have a medical health care plan....😡

Heidi
🙂

Oh no! Do you think (like patricia says - that he has eaten something else?) - what time does he normally get home from school? I would be a little concerned about him to be honest - make sure you have lots of hypo treatment in just in case. Do you think he just miss-calculated? Let us know what happens. Thinking of you and Nathan. Bev

hey sasha pleased he had no hypo for 2 days tho x

I hope nathan is OK, he has probably had something he thought you wouldn't approve of, boys are like that sometimes.

I hope he's OK Heidi - I know how horrid a bad hypo is! Now that people have been alerted to the possibility, things should be standing by for him.

Hi Heidi

Please let us know how Nathan is doing. I am thinking of you. 🙂

oh dear, not good.. will keep finger croosed that he is ok.. please do let us know.

Take care

Hi All,

Thank you for all of your replies and wishes...me and Nathan appreciate them...xxxx

Well its been a complete nightmare since 1.50pm...school lost him..then found him...could find his hypo kit..then found it...wanted to know if he could just come home..with a bg reading of 5 and dropping rapidly....then wanted to know why he could'nt walk home with that reading..told them he was dropping fast and if they did'nt get glucose into him immediately with in 10 mins he would be on the floor..he had become disorientated and uncooperative...they said he did'nt look to well...I said he must not be left on his own...they asked where he should be..they would put him in the medical room and keep an eye on him...after 20 mins of phone calls back and forward....I arranged for my friend to pick him up in the car and bring him home....

From then onwards I have struggled to keep his levels raised..they rise slighlty then drop again with in 15 mins....He is meant to be having his tea...but I've just been told to go away....

At least you have him at home and know there is no danger of him passing out in the middle of the street. Hopefully the food you have already got into him will begin to work in a few minutes and he will be back to himself soon.

Best wishes,
Margaret

Hi again folks

Well Nathan is still only reading 4.1...going to give him his NR after he finished his meal...about half hour or so after he finished

Hi Sasha,

Glad he's home safe so you can keep an eye on him.

I've only just joined the forum today and haven't checked your earlier posts so sorry if you've answered this before.

I just wondered how much insulin he takes at each meal, and how much slow insulin he's on?

Heidi,
I think i would be tempted to just knock a couple of units off the meal - just in case he is still on the way down. Hope he is ok and that your ok too!:DBev x

Hi NiVZ.

Hi and welcome to the forum.....

Nathan and me dont carb count....but at the moment Nathan's inulin doses are...Breakfast: NR....6-8 Units
Dinner: NR....14 Units
Tea: NR....14-16 Units
Bedtime: LANTUS...38 Units

I've radically reduced his insulin dose's because he had 18 hypo's in 10 day...he was on....10, 18, 18, 46.
Nathan is 14 and in the throws of puberty...Hormones are'nt playing nice...lol

At least he's home safe and sound! 🙂 I would agree with Bev's advice to maybe cut his dinner time Novorapid by a couple of units.

Glad to hear he is ok now, but must have been very worrying for you. Good move getting him picked up. Have you been able to talk to him about it yet? and understand what his reasoning was to go against your agreed dosing?

I don't know if you have said before why you aren't carb counting? maybe it would give him more freedom and confidence to adjust his own insulin doses and feel more in control.

Hi bev,

He still not brill...just tired and bad tempered...Yes I have knocked a couple of units off his tea dose..just now got to see how it pans out from here..fingers crossed..Going to get him to check his blood every half hour..he going to be well impressed with that...lol.
He had decided to give himself 20 units because he was going to have flapjack after his jacket potato and beans....in his mind he thought he was doing the right thing...and I understand why he did...just advised him next time to try on or two units....rather than 6 😱..
