does anyone have any ideas what to have to breakfast insted of cereals and something that can overcome the biscuits attack HHEEELLP:confused:

Hi Top sorry to hear about your hbA I hope it can come down for you by November, regarding breakfast have you tryed scrambled eggs with bacon(grilled)/or poached egg on toast, both of these things i have frequently and they level my morning BS to an average of 5.4%
As far as the biccies issue what you need to do is replace the biccy urge with something else, do you like nuts?

Hi

Since last week I have given up on cereals and toast (bread totally actually).

I have boiled about 6 eggs in an evening - peeled them and put them covered in the fridge. I then often have 1 or 2 for breakfast - and also have the rest to snack on too - I make 6 as the rest of the family seem to be diving in.

You could also have cheese and spinch (or any other) ommelette. I have even made this the night before then microwaved.

Also this week I have had some chicken, haslet or turkey if very hungry.

I have also started eating cucumber with cream cheese - and celery spread with peanut butter! (yummy!).

Yesterday as I wasn't having bread, I had a cheeseburger for lunch but wrapped in a round lettuce leave - it was actually much nicer than with the bread. I have heard it mentioned on here many times but never tried it.🙂

thanks for the hints i think about one day at a time and maybe do a food diary again and maybe weighing my cereals rather than pouring it into a bowl

i promise to try and be good and take one step at a time and scream on the fourum i know i promise before and i will again untill i win the battle which i am looking at failing come november dont know how to get hb down

my head is in a little overdrive just now

Hi there,

Try Alan S's breakfast pages on his bLog ( Alan is an Aussie member of this Group but posts infrequently )....

BTW don't fight against Insulin too hard. Most of us T2s (I did it as well) fight tooth and nail not to go onto Insulin as it seems such a final step. Once they are on it, many T2s think, "what was I fighting against?" - Insulin makes control much more straightforward. Medics tend to use the prospect of Insulin as a "threat" to T2s when it reality it is a blessed release for most of us IMO.

1. Have you got a meter and do you get test strips, cause if not you are going to find it difficult to get control. If you don't go back to your nurse and say if you don't prescribe them for me how can I get control.

2. stop eating apples, grapes and melon. I have Morrisons grapefruit (in it's own juice and not in syrup) and 2 slices of Burgen with peanut butter for breakfast. Tunnocks aren't good for you,as you know (20g carb, inc 10g sugar). The best thing you can do is not to have them in the house! It sounds like your body is craving a sugar hit and you will need to re-train it by reducing the sugary things.

As has been said insulin isn't a bad thing except for the complications with the driving licence.

i am climbing the walls wanting a biccie chocolate HHEELP
went for a bath to cure my mind of the craving didnt work

had salad, baked potato and bolonaise followed by melon and grapes for my dinner
unable to eat grapefruits ue to meds so no apples melon or grapes what fruits do you advise to eat or should i avoid them all

all advice much appriciated

I have a thing for oranges and granny smith apples, but experience recently tells me that I should avoid them. However i made a yellow cake the other day with strawberry jam and cream filling and that hits the spot and I seem to be able to cope with it reasonably well. But note I am on insulin AND Victoza.
The only way to tell is to test your blood sugar before and after eating (1hr and 2hr initially). It's about as hard as giving up smoking and I managed that 7yrs ago after a lifetime of smoking.

The problem with grapes is can you stop eating them? Can you eat maybe 6 and then stop? then fine.
when you have a baked potato try and pick one that is smaller than you would normally have. Only have 2 small boiled potatoes instead of 4 or 5, etc. Cut a smaller piece of melon, have half an apple. If you can cut down rather than cut out then that will help, but you are in the dark unless you can test you blood sugar levels.

I so sympathize with you...i have been trying for the last 2 month to get my BG down from 14..its SSOOO hard. I'm down to about 8.6 now but i have had to kick myself in the head so many times to stop dipping into the kids easter eggs...i can't stand that nagging sugar desire..little voice in the head telling you how nice it is..I'm with the nut thing tho..i have found them a useful distraction and not such a BG killer....CHIN UP!!! and i do hope it gets easier for you x

As a side note I was advised the other day to keep walnuts in the freezer as they go rancid at room temperature rather quickly (obviously defrost before eating). Walnuts are a pretty good nut to snack on or to add to salads.
