Oh Oliver, I feel so sad for you. My own son (17) goes mad that I want to be so involved in his diabetes. I just want to make sure he keeps as well as he possibly can, and find it heartbreaking you are not getting any support at home.
As a parent I felt so overwhelmed at the start, so being the actual young person with diabetes I can only imagine how hard it must be.
Seriously though, this forum really saved me in the early weeks and months. I have learnt so much about diabetes, and when I have felt low these wonderful people have lifted me. Please, if you feel you can't talk and get any support at home, please keep posting on here. People really do care and understand and offer support. I know it's not the same as having someone give you a real hug and let you let go of some of your emotions, but it really is theraputic being able to 'sound off' when you feel sad/angry/confused and getting some response.
It's so good that you have recognised the need to get some proper help and hopefully your diabetes nurse will come up trumps for you. If you possibly can, try and explain how you get no support at home and how low you feel, and you really need as much support from the diabetes team as they are prepared to give you. Admit you hadn't taken it seriously in the past but that you now want to change. If they are worth anything, they will only want to help you. And don't worry if you get emotional, they have seen it all before. It is a massive thing to deal with, but with the right support and help you will start to get things properly under control and that in turn will make you feel so much better, both mentally and physically.
Sending you lots of love, and hope things go well at your appointment.
Take care.
Tina
