Saga of another arm of blood given. HbA1c time again!

I got done by the new nurse on Wednesday....

Needles and me are not a good mix. I am terrified of them.

"Can you use a black needle please?" (Because they are thinner.)

"No I use green ones."

"Bye..."

Went to reception. Said what happened to my favourite receptionist. Doctor summoned. Doctor appeared. Said what happened. Escorted back to nurse. Nurse told to use black needle. Black needle used. Took 4 goes to get blood. Stuck finger over bloody (I'm not not swearing) arm and walked out in silence. Doctor tore a strip off nurse.

Moral: Get a different nurse next time.

Now... I wonder what it'll be this time?

One thing I've heard is that if testing for blood potassium level, using too fine a needle (or one or two other factors which can cause autolysis of blood cells) can result in a false high reading. This may explain why some nurses insist on using coarse needles, even when potassium level is not among the tests being done. 🙄

It's worth it! Doctor was surprised it was that low until I showed my food and exercise diary. Low carbs and lots of walkies...

I never thought of that Robert. I was just having the HbA1c done as all the other tests have been consistently showing normal figures for some time... Black needles are generally used on children and hurt me less.
