Ok glad to hear your not panicking sweet, would have to be some lethal ice cream to get you up that high and ketones so maybe you feeling poorly as well is playing more of a part.

Think your doing everything right Drink/Sip water and test every 30 min well thats what i do Im sure your QA of 6 units will bring you down what Insulin are you on ?

Your doctor is wrong - if you are on insulin then ketones can be a problem, so he needs to update his knowledge 😡 Ketones can build up if there isn't enough insulin circulating.

I hope you are feeling much better this morning 🙂

Even if you were T2, the fact you are on insulin means you do need test strips. From what others have posted on here you need test strips if you are driving because you are required to test before driving.

Even some of the medications for T2 require testing because they can cause hypos.

If sounds like your GP is a bit of a ninny and if isn?t doing a very job in helping you to get your HbA1c below the NICE recommendation of 6.5% Do you have any options to get rid of him?

Just spoken to dsn about it she also said i shouldn't be getting ketones but they might pop up now and again,im just puzzled what the heck does +1mean.
Thankyou all for the replies

This is wrong! Any insulin user is at risk of ketoacidosis! I am shocked that a doctor and a DSN do not know this! 😱 It's only Type 2s that are NOT injecting that ketones will not present a problem to, since their own pancreas will be producing insulin.

Only just seen this thread.

Ketones in blood or urine? Makes a difference to what to report to health care professional when you phone and should have been established by anyone who replied to this thread earlier.

Hope you're feeling better now.
