MDI - how long?

Hi everyone,

How long have you been on MDI / Multiple Daily Injections?

I've been on MDI since being diagnosed in 1992 ie injections for breakfast, lunch, dinner & bedtime.

Since June 2008 - when I was diagnosed! 🙂 I'm glad I didn;t have to start on mixed insulins!

Nearly 20 years on 2 mixed jabs a day, then around another 10 on mdi, been on a pump for around a year & a half...wonder what the next ten years will bring?! 🙂

I've been on the same. I was dx in 92 at age 10. I went on mdi about 14 years old and been on the same ever since!

MDI since 96, M3 mixed for a few months then Humilin I and Humalog, then Lantus and Humalog, now pumping since Apr 11.

I have been on MDI since about 1985 - 27 years - if I remember rightly! My first weekend at home on these I went to Girl Guide Camp!

I can't remember how long I was on mixed (too long ago!) but I think it was only 6-12 months or so. So that would make just over 20 years on MDI and about 3 months on a pump.

I started on 2 injections in 89, then went onto MDI in 98 when I became pregnant, and 4 years ago I started pumping..

Hubby was 2 injections a day until 2004 ish... Even then he didn't want to really go over to MDI it took me over 2 years to convince him it was the way forward for him..

Only the last 5 years on MDI out a total of 13 years diagnosed...........

Was diagnosed 23 yrs ago and I was on mixed for bout 6 months and then MDI since. Started 2 days ago on a pump, a weeks trial with saline then go live with insulin on Monday coming.

Brilliant that you've got a pump now - bet you love it, they'll have to knock me out to prise mine off me lol..all the best for monday! 🙂

I can't remember, but sometime in the early 90s I think. Can't remember much at all tbh.🙄

I was on twice a day with disposable syringes in the mid 80s but must have gone onto the novopen I sometime in the late 80s/early 90s.

I was on mixed from DX in April 2000 until August 2004 when I started on MDI. Been MDI ever since.

Good question - and the honest answer is I am not sure!

My husband was working in Holland when we got engaged, and he suggested (having heard about pens there) that I asked at my hospital appointment. When I did, they had the cheek to say "We recommend them to most of our diabetics!" - well I had only been with them a year!!!!!

I think at that point I got my first pen - so that would have been September'ish 1991 (We got engaged on August 1st 1991 and married exactly a year later - my husband?s theory is we can go out once for both our engagement AND wedding anniversaries 😉 I know this makes him sound bad, but he has just fetched me a nice glass of white wine straight out the fridge 😎)
