Mollie told her Mummy she was very sad because she was fed up having needles and having her blood taken. She didn't want to have diabetes any more. I think we can all sympathise with her. Has anyone had this problem with a young child and how did you deal with it? Your help would be appreciated.

I'm sorry to hear that Mollie is feeling sad, it's very understandable :( How about trying to make things a bit more fun by making some diabotics with her? 🙂

I'm sure I must have gone through this even being diagnosed at 10 yrs old....

my mum always - with all the meaning in her - told me it was because I was special and not everyone could cope with it, but I could...it wasn't given to people who weren't special enough to have it.

sounds silly I know, but as a kid, that always seemed to do the trick. Didn't exactly make me feel happy about it, but made me feel more accepting.

Hope she's ok soon.

Hi Supernan,
sorry to hear Mollie is down in the dumps :(
I can remember which charity it is but one provides a bear and lots of bits and bobs/info for Children. Think it's the one Shiv works for.
As a small child my insulin was always called magic medicine, perhaps something along those lines will help.

Hi

It's JDRF that does the bear and you get some books and other bits and bobs all for free (at least it was in 2010) The bear has injection sites so they can play 'pretend' My daughter loves hers and she was Dx aged 11!

It is difficult when they say things like they don't want diabetes - my daughter is nearly 13 and I know she has that thought most days - she doesn't say it much - at her age she is old enough to know it's not going away any day soon. Must be so hard when they are little and don't understand - medicine makes most things 'better' but insulin doesn't as far as they are concerned :(

Sorry wish I could be more help. :(

Bless her........It's so sad when a child gets an awful medical condition. I hope someone can help with her sadness. Does she have Rufus bear? :( Sheena

Thank you

Thanks for the messages. They are involved with the JDRF and she does have a bear which she had almost from day one which has places for injections, etc. (guess who bought it???) I just feel so bad for her mum as Mollie's sugars are so up and down and I can understand how Mollie feels. Rachel copes really well especially as they have Abigale who is 3 and Rachel doesn't drive. She has to walk to school and Nursery around 8 times a day and that's without having to dash to school for Mollie!! Thanks again. I have passed on this website and the tip about diabotics.

Hope Mollie is feeling much happier soon Supernan 🙂

I have no idea, it breaks my heart to think of little ones who have to deal with this. I am so sorry anyone has to, but even worse for little kids.:(

Bless her, I like the idea above that she has it because she is so very special. xxxxxx
