today I went for a lovely river-side walk near Tadcaster. there were so many beautiful scenes and I was glad I had taken my little digital camera. (I'd actually gone to Tadcaster for a dental check-up).

I ended up walking for 5 miles!! 😱 but I could have gone further but I became really hungry and realised it was 1pm and I hadn't eaten since 9am breakfast 😱 so I headed for a lovely little cafe near the war memorial. the specials board said 'homemade cream of mushroom soup' which sounded just the ticket to warm me up after a frosty walk by the river. I tested my BG levels before my lunch and I was a very good 5.1 (well good for me). so I ate a fab soup and polished off the white french bread too

well..... you all know what happened next don't you!

yes...... my BG levels went up and up................... and up!!!

what an idiot I am!!! it is 4.30pm now and I'm still up at 11.4 😱

can someone tell me ..... how long does it take to learn?????

best go off now and 'punish' myself on the Wii :(

mmmmmm, as tasty as French Stick is......it is massive on Carbs and evil for spikes!

Get thee behind her Santa! I feel so tempted sometimes too but white bread actually scares me these days. Having said that the bakery next to my office had some lovely looking ciabatta rolls in today. I almost cried as I walked away with my lentil soup and boring brown roll. Deduct 5 brownie points and don't do it again?

Wonder why you readings stayed high for so long.

I have problems with those packet soups, with the dried ingredients, if they have a few noodles in especially. BG goes way up.

You're not dumb, or weak willed - we all learn from our "mistakes".......just one of those things. It's a big learning curve.

Don't beat yourself up or punish yourself for it, hope the Wii workout was good though!

I miss white bread sometimes too :(

evil!! it is!! evil!!! oh but it tasted sooooo wonderful 😛 but if I am to get some decent control of this D then I must avoid it in future!

I'll deduct those 5 brownie points (thanks for being so lenient).... oh I love ciabatta bread tooooooo .... I would have cried too :(

don't know why it stays so high after white bread.... but it did.... until I went on the Wii Fit and jogged for 30 mins........ now down to 4.3.

feeling good now 🙂

awww thanks Laura 🙂

Wii Fit was good.... I jogged for 30 mins and brought my BG level down to 4.3 :D I was actually surprised I could jog for as long as 30 mins. I'm obviously getting fitter..... or was it coz I was so angry/disappointed with myself???

I would say that, given you had walked for 5 miles and then did 30 mins Wii, you deserved to have a nice lunch and all that activity has clearly helped rescue your levels 🙂 Try rye bread next time though! 😉

These things just have to be done sometimes.... What with the walk and then wii think you deserved a nice crunchy piece of french bread .... Now I'm drooling lol x

Do you know my prob? When we go to France, I utterly adore Normandy butter. Hence I only take a small tub of 'virtuous' spread with me, after all, a large one would take up far too much room in the fridge, wouldn't it?

And - truthfully - we've tried various French spreads in the past which are billed as being virtuous but haven't yet found a single one we enjoy. So once that tub is empty - it's replaced with gorgeous butter. But you have to spread it on summat don't you? So I'm afriad I'm very French; I test all the baguettes in Intermarche or Auchan whatever, until I find the lightest weight one. Hopefully, there will be as much 'hole' as there is bread. And of course, to stop your sandwich filling falling through the holes - you HAVE to fill the apertures with butter ............. :D
