just realised that some antibiotics can decrease the pill from working, im on the antibiotics called trimethoprim and on the combined pill, even though i don't plan on having sex its just too ease my mind cause i was also wondering if i have been ill and i have thrown up once does that mean my pill isn't working anyway? if so that means there is a chance i could be pregnant :/
AHHHHHHHHHHH.

Hi Estella, don't panic, I have been in this situation before. If you are worried speak to your pharmacist. There are several questions to answer, how many hours after taking the pill were you sick? How many weeks since your last period? Sickness does reduce the effectiveness of the pill but it is unlikely that if you were sick more than a couple of hours after taking it that you could get pregnant. Basically the pill will have worked after a couple of hours of taking it. Also, the pill is quite strong and even missing one pill is usually not too much to worry about depending how many weeks since your last period.

As for the antibiotics, yes, some can affect the pill but I don't remember that one being on the list - again ask the pharmacist but if I were you I would assume that the pill wont work and use other protection while you are taking it and for a week after.

Can't add to the advice, the pharmacist or NHS Direct will be able to help you. I hope you feel better soon.

my last period ended on the friday, i started taking my pill again at 11pm, then i threw up on the sat at about half 5.
so i'm hoping i will be fine 🙂

It sounds like it had long enough to be absorbed before you were sick then, so don't panic! Hope you are better soon 🙂

For most people it doesn't cause a problem, missing one pill or being sick..

How ever if you change your mind about bedroom activities then I suggest that you take some etc procautions..

As I got caught on the pill (sick once) for me it didn't pose a major problem as I was married, just looked like we were going to start our family a bit sooner than planned😡

Patient information leaflet with the Pill should explain the details. In case of any doubt, use a condom.

very helpful reply!! I was just going to say depends how quick you were sick, and it's more about being cautious and that there's a slight increased risk so they advise you to take extra precautions. try not to worry too much. NHS direct would be a good shout for further advice.

Hope you're ok 🙂

forgot to mention that the doctor did not say anything to me about it at all. he had my notes up of my medication and did not think to mention it, that annoyed me alot.

Estella - that annoys me a lot too. It is possibly because it is only a couple of antibiotics that affect the pill and your one is ok, but sometimes they just don't think about it. If you go back soon it might be worth pointing out that he / she failed to mention it and you were a bit worried so they they don't make the same mistake again!
