I have been taking metformin 3 a day all with the main meal due to the amout of time purched on the toilet the Dr has changed this to slow release metformin 3 a day all taken with the main meal

is this a form of normal?

No personal experience, but I think a common side effect of the medication is stomach upset...........

I hope the slower stuff does the trick........😉

Yes, Metformin can have an unpleasant side effect. Generally it's supposed to only last the first 2 or 3 weeks but for some people they don't loose the problem.

For me, I gained IBS for a couple of weeks and if I got my timing wrong (ie., took the pill an hour late). But after 6 months of the stuff my tummy is mostly behaving itself!

timing

My Dr has said to take all at once is it better to be taking them 1 at each meal or what?

I'd double check with your GP about that. When I took metformin I took one in the morning with breakfast and one in the evening with my main meal. If you're taking three, on that basis, I'd take one with each meal.

But, as I said, check with your GP. There may be a reason why you need to take them all at once. Mind you do you take them all at once for breakfast, dinner or tea?

Andy 🙂

I was warned about the effects of Metformin. I am obviously one of the lucky ones as I never suffered any side effects. It is to the point that I am not bothered whether I take them with meals or not, I take them when convenient. Everybody is affected in different ways so stick with them and see what happens.

Its not how hard we hit. its how hard we can get hit and keep moving forward.

The advice given to me was take one with or after your meal or face the consequences. It is better to take it with each of your main meals as all three at once could cause problems. Are you lucky enough to have a DSN? Have chat to the DSN and see what she advises.

You can take the Slow/Modified release version in anyway that suits you. If you are taking three a day I presume they are only 500mg ones. I take two 1000mg but I split them one with breakfast and one with the next substantial meal as they are a bit of a gobfull and I have numerous other pills to take as well. But if you can stomach them in one go with no ill effects you may as well do that.
