6pm felt really ill hot dizzy sweaty so asked for bg to be tested. They did and it was 2.6 they immediately said that can't be right and retested different finger 7.5 same machine So they went by 7.5. Head of care said if it was 2.6 she would be a lot worst Felt bad hot sweaty headache etc. so went to bed
940pm woke up so they can take normal bedtime reading it was 4.8 so given JBs couple. They retested 10mins later and it was 4.3 so more JBs feeling hypo again all this time. staff asked me if it was below 5 what should they do told them I would like long acting carbs ie banana. Feeling a bit out of it. retested again 10 mins later and it was 7.0 feeling better. They are going to retested later
Question what should I have done different

I think given the hypo-like symptoms you were feeling I’d have been tempted to treat with at least some sort of carbs to begin with.

It is confusing where meter results give such variations, but I’m just thinking about the meter manufacturer guidance. If you’d been feeling all hypo-sweaty and ill and got 7.5, the meter manufacturers would advise you to check again, in which case you’d have seen the 2.6 as a confirmation and treated it.

Maybe you should have done an extra check (ensuring hand washing etc) to have a ‘best of three’?

Thanks peeps I think if i had been feeling a bit better and stronger in myself I would have insisted on a 3rd go but I felt that ill and out of it today it was 6 and I feel like the night b4 was a good **** up night I have the hangover from hell
Cheers

That sounds like what I call a "hypo hangover". I have the headache and nausea from a hangover but didn't touch a drop of alcohol so that's not even a vague memory of a fun time.

Take care today and keep a closer eye on your BG than usual. It is not uncommon for a bad hypo to be followed by more (but not as bad).

Yes I’d have gone with 7.5 as 2.6 probably meant you hadn’t dried hands properly. Or rewashed and dried hands and retested.

I thought you had your own meter Gail?
You must surely have some sweets/hypo treatments yourself in your room that you could have taken if you really felt hypo. I know you don't have access to your insulin, but being able to treat hypos yourself should be pretty straightforward.

Get an accu check fast clix. No needles are visible and you can’t get at the lancets even if you try they are all safely inside a drum.
