So sorry to hear about your experience @Charmaine86 but 100% you did the right thing - they were out of order IMO but I'm not a medical professional - how are your numbers now? Any better?
that is very good news for you. As a non medical person you have so many pointers to type 1 thats what it may eventually be but hopefully you are on an even keel and knowing you are fully insured can enjoy the holiday. Of course I hope you dont need the insurance.Update on insurance- I called the insurance company this morning to advise of them and they have said that because the diagnosis (if you can call it that) was after the date I booked the trip- I will be covered and should update them prior to any new trips I book.
Thank you, I am glad I can go knowing that I’m insured and that I’ve tried with the hospital to get things sorted before going but that’s seeming unlikely as I leave on Thursday and can’t really see anything happening in that time.that is very good news for you. I do find this astounding compared to how I was treated by my surgery when they found out how high my blood sugar was (with high ketones) Next day appointment with specialist Diabetes Nurse who immediately put me on insulin, hospital appt within a week for abdominal scan (found out later to check for pancreatic cancer) Full blood tests. I was treated like an urgent case with blood sugars similar to yours. Anyway, have a great holidayno I missed the fat jacket potato washed down with a couple of mars bars as I figure the bloods sugars were a disaster without further input.
I don’t have a lot of faith in what they are saying either- the doctor even said that I’ve to re-introduce metformin in a few weeks again as it’s possible I have a bug/ infection that’s causing all the numbers and symptoms to be as they are- honestly you couldn’t write it- looks would show infection and if I had a bug m, stopping metformin wouldn’t stop the symptoms!
hello, I did ask about my holiday and was told outright it wouldn’t be a problem and why I think it would be and also that my blood sugar levels are not uncontrolled so have nothing to worry about- is it just me or are they for real here!!
It really is astounding and hopefully most people get the treatment so promptly as you did. For me, I guess it’s a waiting game. I feel a bit better now that I have a contact number for the Diabetes Specialist Nurses as I can call them if need be. Thank you, hopefully the Glicazide has a better effect than the metformin.I do find this astounding compared to how I was treated by my surgery when they found out how high my blood sugar was (with high ketones) Next day appointment with specialist Diabetes Nurse who immediately put me on insulin, hospital appt within a week for abdominal scan (found out later to check for pancreatic cancer) Full blood tests. My HbA1c was very high at diagnosis and I went onto gliclazide a few months later as it hasn't come down much on Metformin but they seemed to think I was type 2 rather than type 1. A year further on I am still diagnosed as type 2. I do find the gliclazide together with reducing carbs, and regular exercise has dropped my HbA1c to just in diabetes range. I am however considerably older than you.It really is astounding and hopefully most people get the treatment so promptly as you did. For me, I guess it’s a waiting game. Your weekend breakfast sounds nice. The carbs are probably about 35g which isn't that bad but fruit juice does make some people's blood glucose rocket. Thanks for sharing, I don’t really know if I am type 1 or type 2 if I’m honest as when I got the HbA1c of 90 I really had no symptoms at all and really only felt unwell in the last few weeks with extreme tiredness, nausea and just know I’m not right and somehow my body is not doing what it should be. Still no thirst or excessive weeing. This morning around 10:30 I had 1 slice of wholemeal toast with cheese melted and approximately 250ml of fresh orange and I have just checked my blood glucose and it’s 21.1 despite having nothing else to eat and only water to drink
Just to add I don’t usually eat breakfast- only at the weekend- this is nothing new, have never been a breakfast type. I have 2 meals per day and don’t ever eat past 7pm as that’s when I usually have my dinner as partner finishes work at that time.
I tend to stick to a low carb diet most of the time, I’m not perfect and we do have treats now and then like the orange juice- we buy a bottle from M&S and have 2 glasses each, one on a Saturday and one on a Sunday. Don’t eat bread during the week and sometimes not even at the weekend so I am stumped as to what to do diet wise.
I do eat fruit but I’m choosy and tend to stick to berries and melon as I enjoy them better. I hate to think what a bunch of grapes or a banana would do to my sugars lol!!
My reading before breakfast was 16.9, it was 21.1 roughly 5 hours after I had eaten.Your weekend breakfast sounds nice. The carbs are probably about 35g which isn't that bad but fruit juice does make some people's blood glucose rocket.
What was your reading before breakfast? Pre and post meal readings( 2 hours after first bite) normally show how your body is responding to the carbs in your meals.
Maybe have a smaller glass of OJ and add some berries with full fat yoghurt. See how that affects your blood glucose.
I find a small portion of watermelon is ok but galia or honeydew melons send my BG high.
Thank you, I will ditch the fruit juice as not something I can’t live without. Happy with a cup of tea! Many of us abandoned fruit juice at diagnosis. Even with insulin, it isn't worth the BG aggravation and isn't a particularly healthy choice anyway. All that fructose with most of the healthy fibre removed. In fact some people use it as a hypo treatment because it releases its glucose so quickly.
