@Quill thank you for the kind words. I've learnt so much from people like @Inka and @Drummer @Leadinglights and @rebrascora . There is lots of information and experience on this site.
Two other things I learned, many people use their lancets multiple times. I have done this because changing each time seemed wasteful. Obviously you mentioned you had a family member who was diabetic I do not share my machine and if I did the lancet would have to be changed. Ive heard it said the two hour test after a meal is two hours after the start of the meal but you will probably looking at trends.
Makes total sense.
I may re-use if I’m running low and lacking funds as it will only be myself using it but we shall see going forward 🙂

@Quill I change the lancet if I have not tested for some time, but when testing every day I don't bother, but I clean my finger before stabbing. As a musician I want to be certain that I am not going to get a sore finger, and so far I never have.

Actually glad to hear more than one of you do this so feel better about it 🙂

My lancet gets changed once a year as I am a fully compliant member of the St Swithin's day club here on the forum. There were times when I was testing as often as 16 times a day and I could still make one lancet last a whole year and many of those tests, I was choosing the least dirty finger up at my stables, with no convenient washing facilities. I have cut myself many times on far less hygienic things than a lancet that has only ever been used to prick my fingers, and never had a problem with an infection or even sore fingers.... well at least not sore from finger pricking.

my lancet gets changed once in a blue moon so you are not alone

@Quill, there are many people on this forum who reuse their lances countless times - including me. I get mine on prescription so being frugal with lances is not a matter of my cash flow. I intensely dislike waste; I'm surrounded by older bits and bobs that still have some use somewhere and so it is with my lances. When a lance is truly blunt and not fit for purpose, only then will I replace it.

I’d rather save as many as I can and spend on the strips when needed instead.

I still have most of my box of lancets from 8 years ago and my original monitor so another re-user.
