Christmas Dinner?

I'm starving, after cooking lunch for twenty I came home, walked the dog and then had an hour Turkish lesson online. An hour of concentration has dropped my BG down to 6 so I'm definitely ready for something to eat.
So, apart from that, you haven't done much today?

For the past few years we’ve chosen whichever Pieminister Pie we like the look of. Initially it was a way of making the day easier and less stressful, but over the years we’ve enjoyed it more and more with extra trimmings.

This year I had a venison one (Deer and Beer), and alongside it we had roast spuds, honey-roast parsnips and carrots, roasted sprouts with chestnuts and halloumi, veggie pigs in blankets, braised spiced red cabbage, yorkshires, and stuffing.

4.9mmol/L before. 1hr 30 later I’m cruising at 8.0, which I’m taking as a massive WIN!

Sorry to report that i have just eaten tea
OMG
2 tuna/mayo/salad wraps
2 tunkly mayo wraps

Be interesting to see BG in 2 hours

@gail2 Is that tea after having a Christmas lunch?? How do you do it? I haven't had anything since breakfast and dinner will be another couple of hours yet but my levels are trying to head into orbit anyway. Onto my third correction in the last 2 hours! I thought you said the DF had been given the day off Gail!

I decided to play safe and put the duck in the oven when I got back after driving the horses out. Just heading out to give my GGs their warm mash supper and haylage and then back to cook veg and dish up for Ian and I. There won't be much in the way of trimmings, but we have had a lovely afternoon out in glorious winter sunshine and we sang Christmas songs and Carols all the way round.... thankfully no one to hear us 🙄 ....and then we were treated to a very dramatic blue sky and bright orange wispy cloud sunset. What a glorious day!

Dinner finished and it was lush.
BG is … whatever.
Two hours after first bite is a bit of a mote point as I was probably staring the Christmas pud (with a glass of PX sherry) at that time.

The second biggest achievement of the day (after eating all that food) is how amazingly tidy the kitchen now looks after clearing up from the Christmas dinner bomb that dropped earlier. It is not easy keeping things tidy over three courses.

The next stage of the traditional Christmas has started - I am the only member of the household awake.

Mine was a scallop and prawn in lobster bisque starter, followed by Turkey, beef and gammon with Roast Potatoes, pigs in blankets, stuffing, sprouts , carrots and peas and rounded off with a big slice of my homemade Christmas pud with clotted cream. All washed down with a couple of glasses of fizz. BG was 5.2 before and 6.8 2 hours after.IMG_20241225_161445528.jpg

Just having a Christmas Curry
5.3 before eating (I will check in 2 hrs time edit to add my +2hr BG reading)

[EDIT 2 hours later]
@9.9 but coming down slowly, it wasn’t the Curry that spiked me up to 13.3
but Mrs @goodybags insisted I help her in finishing her amaretto tiramisu
she started it a few days ago (it was taking up valuable fridge space)

OMG
14.4
I blame the xmas cake my fault

Went to a local Indian. Had beer, curry, bhajis, papadoms, bit of rice, naan and some saag paneer. 6.1 before, 5.1 afterwards.

Well my first "proper" meal for ages, and I did test before and 2 hours after.
Was planning just a very small xmas lunch, but I ended up with a larger meal than I had planned.
BG immediately before eating was 5, and approx 2 hrs after was 5.7, so very pleased with that!
I had 1 small roast potato, several slices of turkey, several brussell sprouts with chopped chestnuts and bacon, some savoy cabbage, 3 pigs in blankets (double wrapped in bacon), 3 stuffing balls, a couple of roasted carrots and a couple of roasted parsnips, a couple of slivers of roasted peppers and a couple of slivers of roasted onion, all with gravy. I
Roast veg were all cooked in a drizzle of olive oil, honey and chopped rosemary with a dash of apple cidar vinegar.
I also had a small xmas pud with a small amount of ice cream.
And yes, I am now full to bursting, but it tasted bloody awesome.....

Definitely not well - spent all day preparing and cooking Christmas dinner and by the time it was ready, managed 3 roast potatoes (which I had counted the carbs for) and not much else (what a shame!) - And BG is 12.5 with upward arrow 1 1/2 hours after - Ketones ok though - Think I'll go to local Indian myself next year! Glad everyone else had a great meal - Happy Christmas everyone!

We had dinner just after 3pm. Homemade winter squash soup with leeks an celery and lots of curry seasoning to start. Main course was turkey breast, pork cranberry and chestnut stuffing balls, roast beef with a Yorkshire pudding and onion gravy, roasted root veg and one small potato. Braised red cabbage with damson and cider vinegar sauce. Christmas pudding and cream to finish me off. Now lolling on the sofa like an overstuffed turkey. Might have a small glass of port to end the evening.
No cooking tomorrow after bubble and squeak for breakfast.:rofl:

The duck was delicious, pigs lost their blankets in the oven but enough veg left for tomorrow at least.
The xmas pud not as good as my normal recipe as I tried one with no suet and with figs instead of apricots.
It flamed nicely with its dousing of Glava.

We have just watched Wallace and Gromit, very funny and a complete contrast to what OH put on on Netflix earlier The Ballard of Buster Scruggs, funny but in a completely different way.

I have just anout survived my first ever xmas lunch on Insulin. IT was a bit of a BG roller coater and I ended up on an exercise bike after the Xmas pud. But it was fun and I even had my first alcohol since I was diagnosed in March. I guess it shows you have to relax sometimes . We had salad with blue cheese and smoked salmon followed by Capon, sprouts, roast potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, parsnips, beetroot and sweet potato gratin, leek and butter bean gratin followed by Xmas pud, berries the later by Sicilian orange cake. A lot of food!

Argh I’m on 12.3 now I guess I’ll have to go for a walk

Happy Xmas everyone and thanks so much for all your help over the last 9 months , I couldn’t have survived without you. Also happy Chanukah to anyone celebrating it.

I don’t know, y’all should leave those pigs alone. They probably don’t do much to hurt your BG but are they worth it?
