I see Gary Linekar is leaving the BBC. All I can say is about time as I have not thought for years he is overpaid (with our licence money) for his limited ability. Other sports presenter (like Murray Waker, Harry Carpenter, Saint and Greavsie, Peter Allis and John Arlott all slowed more enthusiasm and descriptive powers

... and Sue Barker and Clare Balding

And are no longer presenting.
I think the job of a sports presenter has changed. Some people prefer the olden days. Others prefer the modern times
I don't mind Linekar as a presenter but no one is worth has much as he is paid. Plus he struggles to keep his opinions to only sport which can be distracting.

Who is going to replace Linekar , maybe a female
I think Jermaine Jenas was being lined up but he's blown it, so I would have thought MOTD2's Mark Chapman would now be in pole position.

What does it matter which gender a presenter is?
Amongst some fans it does as there's a certain antipathy towards female presenters fronting men's football, although personally I could happily listen to Sky Sports' Sue Smith talking football all day. The decline in viewing figures for BBC's Football Focus was blamed, perhaps unfairly, on their appointment of Alex Scott as presenter.

Like Gary on MOTD so sad to see him leave.

Micah Richards would be good replacement, like him as pundit on show as he talks sense whilst still having a good banter.

Sexist dinosaurs

I like Alex Scott - far better than Gobby!

Good riddance to Lineker IMO - great footballer but overpaid and should keep his opinions on other matters to himself - was lucky not to be sacked due to impartiality regulations at the (Woke) BBC

Just remember it's a very small minority @CliffH thank goodness.
That's what people always say about football! How "small" does the "minority" who are sexist, racist and/or homophobic have to be for it to be acceptable? I don't imagine that it's anything like small enough currently, given that we don't hear as much about such attitudes amongst the spectators of other sports.

Isn’t that because football is the most popular sport in the UK?
You don’t hear about sexism, racism or homophobia in hockey but I don’t hear anything about hockey so a minority of a very small number is negligible.
