IBS can sometimes be because of gut dysbiosis - an overgrowth of unfriendly gut bacteria. Cleaning up your diet can help. The FODMAP diet is good for calming things down, but ideally you’d then carefully reintroduce some of those items in order to feed your good gut bacteria.

It’s not just food, of course, stress can really affect the bowel too.

Well, why not make a list of what you can eat, and what you have yet to try? Then see what you can make of them, and forget the rest!

Worked for me. Mark you no IBS. Just a thought....
this is a great idea, just for small tastings initially (and can feed the remainder to your hubby)

This is a great idea, I will try it and let you know what happens. Thank you so much

I love black pudding. My friend hated it and would never eat it but, many years ago, she was invited to a barbecue and was persuaded to try it and found she quite liked it. I can understand it is not for everyone though. I love haggis too.

I am a vegetable and salad addict but one of my friends is diabetic and she cannot stand either of them. She suffers from IBS and thinks salad and veg make it worse so won't eat them.

It is difficult if you hate them but they are load carb.

Gimme the black pud, haggis and the kidneys or liver or heart - all delish. properly cooked. But yes - lamb's. (My mate reckoned pigs kidneys or liver are just as nice if soaked in milk prior to cooking - but I've never tried that.)

Hard that before about soaking in milk but never tried it.

This is how I cook cabbage, and even my kids would eat it!
You can use any type, though it would be a shame to cook the lighter leafy types such as savoy like this, so do it with the usual hard white cabbage

Cut the cabbage vertically into wedges
Lay one on its side, remove the stalk, and cut it into fine slices, so it's almost like straw
Simmer in a pan with olive oil, butter, and a small amount of water.
When the cabbage starts to soften remove the lid and continue simmering until the water has evaporated and the cabbage fries slightly in the oil
S&P to taste
You can do a similar thing with carrots

I have done the FODMAP that's how I know what I can and can't eat. Leafy green veg, onions, garlic, gluten and lactose are in the top ten!!! Stress is a huge part of my life unfortunately. So it's a vicious circle. I will carry on as I have been doing and accept I will never reach remission. Time to give myself a break. Thanks though

Oh, just remembered ---- years ago in my bohemian youth I shared a house with a lad who wasn't very keen on cauliflower
so often he would add a few fennel seeds to the water when he cooked it, which disguised the taste

Also I've seen that you can make thick slices of cauli & cabbage and cook them like steaks, though I've never tried that myself
Search YT for cauliflower/cabbage steaks, there are several videos

Your friend is correct, lots of veg can start off an IBS attack, she has my sympathy
