Yep insulin resistance means the insulin is getting into your system but it takes a lot more insulin to do the same job. So they’d need high doses of insulin

Maybe think of insulin a bit like if you have a decorator who isn’t very good, you might need a few not very good decorators to paint one room. If you have one pro decorator he might get the work of the four not very good decorators done. Either way the room gets painted.

That was a terrible example but couldn’t think of a better one sorry!
Hahah brilliant Lucy. Oooooohhh things are all making sense better now. Mind you DSN’s haven’t helped as they’ve not actually said I’m not resistant anymore. ‍♀️‍♀️

@Bubbleblower many apologies, I think I’ve hijacked your thread. I love blueberries so I’m going to carry on with my blueberries. I have 40g on my porridge and about 30-40g on my Greek yogurt in the evening.

So insulin resistance is the need for more insulin and not as I’ve managed to some how understand it as the body resisting absorbtion ‍♀️. Therefore the body resisting absorbtion is low sensitivity. I’ve not got low sensitivity to it anymore and now have high sensitivity. I knocked back my breakfast bolus to 10 minutes after eating porridge which used to mean a prebolus of 30-40 minutes (before my lyumjev days) on lispro. So I’ve taken that back 40-50 minutes since starting on insulin. How’s that happened lol.

The speed of absorption of the insulin varies within a normal range, but sometimes people can absorb it excessively slowly or quickly. For me, there are certain body areas I simply can’t use because I risk an extremely and unnaturally fast absorption. This is because I’m very slim. If you’ve lost weight since diagnosis, that could be contributing to your fast absorption.

Thought my weight loss was something to do with it but im at the weight that I was when I was originally diagnosed as Lada. I did put a bit back on until this trouble started with the lyumjev and the only way I could do an evening of bar work was with no more than a unit of insulin so was having a low carb but high protein tea. That didn’t go well with being on my feet for 6 hours. Was doing that 1 or two nights a week. So im pretty sure my weight loss was again down to my own doings. I do feel it’s starting to come back on very slowly though.

If you can put a little weight on that might help @gillrogers I’ve found that even a reasonably small weight change can make a difference 🙂

I am trying but me and weight gain have never been a necessity until i became diabetic. So i dont realky know how to do it other than by eating excessively and unhealthly. 8 years of switch off the snack button cos i was diagnosed as type two didnt help but i cant do that now anyway as i would never come back down during the day because even with sensitivity once im at the peak it takes me 3 hours to come back down. Though just lately im.peaking in 30 minutes to an hour with a 4 hour return.

Use something like MyFitnessPal to keep a daily tally of your calories; add healthy fats; and systematically eat more day after day. You have to keep it up. Adding desserts is good too, eg fruit crumble or cheesecake. You can add non-carby snacks like nuts and cheese too.

Yep I do that already I’m eating a lot of nuts, but I also tend to find they raise my blood sugars but an hour or so later. Only thing that doesn’t is 90% dark chocolate! I’m eating approx half a Lindt 100g bar a day. I can only tolerate so much dairy a day too otherwise I start getting lactose intolerance problems. I’m more or less on my limits now. I tried putting coffee in my cream last week and after 3 days I couldn’t do it again. I mean cream in my coffee duh!

So take some insulin after you eat them.
Nuts are not carb free although some contain les carbs than others.
If you want to try the lower carb ones, avoid peanuts, almonds and cashews. But bear in mind, your body may break down the protein into glucose if it needs it so you may still need insulin.
